Openings: Meggs – “Heavenly Creatures” @ Thinkspace Gallery

Over the weekend, the Thinkspace Gallery in Culver City welcomed in Meggs from Australia as he opened his latest solo show. Entitled Heavenly Creatures, the exhibition included a mixture of paintings, sculptural works, and overlying murals including some interactive spinning panels that could be flipped by attendees. As usual, the new work featured his semi-abstract renderings of comic-inspired superheroes in kinetic compositions. Take a look at more photos below… Discuss this show here. Discuss Meggs here.

Over the weekend, Regen Projects in Hollywood played host to a new show from the New York-based Marilyn Minter. Although known to a subset of her fans for her sexually-charged photographs exploring the pathology of glamour, Minter also expresses her artistic vision through paintings on occasion. Tomorrow night (April 6th) at Thinkspace Gallery, Aussie artist Meggs will be unveiling all new works for his fans in Los Angeles (his first show in the area since four years ago). On April 13th, the Corey Helford Gallery in Culver City will be hosting a solo show from Kazuki Takamatsu, whose work we focused on in one of our articles from Basel Week Miami last year. The talented Greg Simkins (featured) will be presenting all new works at the Merry Karnowsky Gallery starting this Saturday night, April 6th, in his home city of Los Angeles. On the 13th of April, CHG Circa will be hosting a new solo from digital specialist Ray Caesar (interviewed). The exhibition looks to be the Toronto-based artist’s first major showing in Los Angeles since his special engagement in Beverly Hills last December at Stephen Webster.
