Last week, Jeff Koons revealed his latest high profile project – a collection he designed with Louis Vuitton. Entitled Masters, the collaboration features 51 different pieces including handbags, scarves, key chains and small leather goods, including wallets and laptop sleeves. The concept behind it all was inspired by the American artist’s Gazing Ball series of paintings from 2015 which featured reproductions of various masterpieces adorned with blue reflective spheres. Continuing their long history of artists collaborations, Louis Vuitton’s latest project features the letters of Ben Eine. In particular, the Frence fashion house has been working on a series of scarves with street and graffiti artists (also see RETNA, Aiko, Os Gemeos) so the UK-based artist’s alphabet musings are just the latest iteration. James Turrell – “Akhob” @ Loius Vuitton City Center (Las Vegas)

James Turrell, who just opened his first exhibition in a New York museum since 1980 over the weekend at the Guggenheim, also has an interesting project in Las Vegas. The American artist, whose work deals with light, color, and space, has created a permanent installation, Akhob, at the Louis Vuitton at City Center, (on the fourth floor which can be seen by appointment only). Reviving a longstanding collaborative relationship with the fashion house, the room floods your retina with high pigment fields of light. Via Hyperallergic.

Starting from the first inklings of the project back in October, Louis Vuitton seemed to be tapping into the the street art game to further their long line of artist collaborations. After their the initial foray in this direction, the iconic fashion house’s project has expanded to include three artists so far – Aiko, Os Gemeos, and RETNA. Remember the mural we mentioned in our Overtime article a couple weeks ago that RETNA (featured) painted for Louis Vuitton? Footage has now been released of the MSK-affiliated writer working on facade of the LV Miami Design District store, covering it with his signature urban calligraphy. After some angst about getting recognition for his hand-painted art (here & here) as opposed to his “factory” produced pieces, Damien Hirst returns briefly to more commercial endeavors.
