Shithead // Luke Chueh

Fully Visual, maker of metal figures in the vinyl dominated world of art toys, has carved out a niche for themselves. After successfully producing fine hand-cast metal figures for the likes of Kozik, Joe Ledbetter, Tim Biskup, and Gary Baseman, they will be releasing “Shithead” – based on the work of Luke Chueh. On October 21st (11 AM PST), 100 pieces will be made available, with one being the chase (gold piece). More after the jump.

Preview: Andy Kehoe @ Black Maria Gallery

Andy Kehoe’s work initially caught our eye because of his masterful creation of desolate yet beautiful landscapes that capture the essence of human loneliness.  Seeing his creatures in the isolated environments prompts us think of how tiny we really are compared to the vastness of nature.   What makes his work even more interesting after the first glance is that his seemingly peaceful scenes are contrasted by the undertones of unease and violence in his characters and their actions. A three-person show called “The Wonder” opens […]

Openings: Tim Biskup @ Addict Galerie

Last Saturday, Tim Biskup’s show “O/S (Operating System)” opened at Addict Galerie in Paris (previously posted). Although no stranger to international travel, he appeared to be excited to be exhibiting in France when we talked to him at Baby Tattooville. The works turned out pretty amazing… continuing his “pixelated” style and pairing each painting with a custom pedestal. Priced at $6500-$15,500, we believe some of these are still available for purchase. Check out all the photos after the jump.

Preview: Lola @ Corey Helford

“The Wondermental” is the title of Lola’s upcoming show at Corey Helford Gallery on October 25th. The theme for the show is an “enchanting visual adventure about a young boy’s journey into the unknown.” Perhaps inspired by experiences as a mother, her paintings always feature children in various fairytale settings. To fully appreciate her shows, one must take in every painting as piece of a puzzle that when put together form an intricate story. Her attention to detail is amazing and inevitably our attention is […]

Openings: Travis Louie & Kris Kuksi @ Shooting Gallery

Travis Louie & Kris Kuksi’s show opened up last Saturday in San Fransciso at the Shooting Gallery (previously previewed). If you have ever observed people looking at their works in person, you will notice that the viewer gets closer and closer to the artwork as they try and get a better look at the details. This is a testament to all the time and hard work put into these pieces.   More photos after the jump.

Openings: Josh Keyes @ OKOK

Last night, the prodigal Josh Keyes returned to his home state of Washington and brought the heavy artillery. AM got the scoop from the completely SOLD-OUT show at OKOK Gallery in Seattle. With the anticipation and buzz growing since the show was announced, Josh did not fail to disappoint with a simply stunning show. As previously reported, the show revolved around the central themes of nature, totem poles, and the animals affected by the changes in the environment. Josh showcased 10 gorgeous paintings that varied […]

Openings: Melissa Haslam @ Cerasoli-LeBasse

Looks like an emerging artist that we have been following, Melissa Haslam, has landed a show in LA. She opened in a group show called “Blender” last night at the new combined Cerasoli-LeBasse Gallery in the artsy Culver City district. The new gallery is a merge between Project: Gallery and the Cerasoli Gallery (formerly The Lab 101) and hopefully will help this Australian artist have more exposure to U.S. collectors. Her paintings usually include fashionably dressed women in interesting situations that hint of perhaps a […]

Openings: Brendan Monroe @ Galerie L.J. Beaubourg

Brendan Monroe’s show “Dwindle to a Tiptoe” (previously previewed) with Evah Fan just opened last Thursday in Paris. It seems that nowadays, more and more American artists that we are familiar with are showing internationally. Unfortunately, that makes it hard for the stateside AM crew to see the work in person, but Adeline from Galerie L.J. Beaubourg was nice enough forward some pics (right before opening we presume) for us to share with you all. As you can see, Brendan and Evah were enjoying themselves […]

Preview: Travis Louie & Kris Kuksi @ Shooting Gallery

One of our favorite artists, Travis Louie, is opening a three-person show tonight at the Shooting Gallery. Louie’s technique must be quite complicated as he is able to paint photorealistic images of his imaginary creatures. He will be sharing some of his “secrets” in a future feature with us, but in the meantime you can enjoy his paintings from this show after the jump. Sculptor extraordinaire Kris Kuksi will be one of the other artists exhibiting along with Louie. The intricacy of his work is […]

Openings: KMNDZ & Ekundayo @ Thinkspace

Judging from the crowd that showed up for the opening, KMNDZ & Ekundayo careers are going in an opposite direction when compared to the stock market right now.  Luckily we got there early and took some quick pics before it got too packed.  The two artists spent several days completely transforming Thinkspace and their hard work definitely paid off. Entering the gallery was like entering into their own little post-nuclear apocalyptic world. More pics after the jump.
