Openings: “Love Conquers All” @ Thinkspace Gallery

Last Saturday night, AM stopped by the “Love Conquers All” show in Culver City at the Thinkspace Gallery. The exhibition’s concept was based on the struggle of the gay community for equality with part of the proceeds were donated to Equality California. Things don’t always turn out well for themed group shows, but this time, many of the artists were able to maintain their signature imagery yet at the same time subtly produce relevant works. More images from the opening after the jump…

Highlights: Recommended Openings for this Weekend

With the quiet summer art season in full effect, the list of recommended shows is shorter than usual but that doesn’t mean there aren’t any quality shows. For example, take a look at the possible crazy installs coming up for David Choong Lee as he gets ready for his show at LeBasse Projects this weekend. As the art world becomes increasingly year-round, eventually there will probably be no lulls in the calendar at all. More listings after the jump…

Openings: Naoto Hattori – “Super Bionics” @ Copro Gallery

Opening concurrently with Rob Sato last Saturday night at Copro Gallery was “Super Bionics” from Naoto Hattori. Attendees of the show were treated to the delightfully grotesque yet beautiful world of Hattori where floating heads, transformed animalia, and a melting pot of organic psychodelia is the norm. Take a look at more pics after the jump…

Openings: Rob Sato – “Muscle Memories” @ Copro Gallery

Last weekend, AM stopped by Copro Gallery to check out the new body of work from Rob Sato entitled “Muscle Memories.” This collection of watercolors, limited editions, and even some works on slides bombarded attendees with the stunning individual detail of each piece, yet if taken as a whole when taking a step back, the kinetic clusters define intricate compositions and gives a look into Sato’s imagination. More pics after the jump…

Showing: Daniel Danger – “they will take it back” @ Gallery 1988 (LA)

One of the most skilled artists out there in capturing atmosphere and emotion in their work, Daniel Danger (interviewed), opened his latest solo show last week at Gallery 1988.
