Preview: Rob Sato – “Muscle Memories” @ Copro Gallery

Rob Sato, who last showed at the Japanese American National Museum and GRSF, will be bringing his incredibly detailed and imaginative paintings to the Copro Gallery this weekend. “Muscle Memories” will be opening at the Santa Monica gallery on Saturday night, August 7th, alongside the Naoto Hattori’s show. What an awesome and appropriate pairing these two artists will be, as their work both stretch the viewer’s brain to the limit with their clustered imagery and bizarre vision.  If there was a fine line between insanity […]

LA-based painter and respected instructor at Otis, Nathan Ota, will be opening his new solo show at the venerable La Luz de Jesus Gallery in September. “An Unforseen Homecoming” will include his signature creatures of the forest, hybrids of wood and other more familiar forms but perhaps with a new palette judging from this teaser pic. Los Angeles based artist Alex Gross will be returning to the Jonathan LeVine Gallery in September for his second solo show there entitled “Discrepancies.” Concurrently, a new book with the same title will be available at the opening and of course, can be signed by the artist for those attending the show. We can’t wait to see the new body of work as we have been fans of his dreamlike paintings which are influenced by his research into foreign culture and interests in the political […]

Preview: “JEST in Time: The Phylogenesis of Clowns” Benefit @ Distinction Gallery

Clowns are different things to different people. Some have an intense fear of clowns (Coulrophobia), or for some, they are a source of amusement and entertainment. These costumed and masked performers are also fertile subject matter for artists (here and here), but the exhibition we are letting you know about this time, “JEST in Time: The Phylogenesis of Clowns”, will be a benefit show (with all profits to benefit ArtHatch and art scholarships at Palomar college). You can also get a clue as to what […]

Showing: “Relationships” @ Gallery Christoffer Egelund

One of our astute readers in Copenhagen, Henrik Haven, recently took some pictures for us of the “Relationships” group show currently showing at Gallery Christoffer Egelund. The exhibition features three artists that we like – Tim Biskup, Miss Van, and Victor Castillo – as well as a fourth artists we weren’t familiar with – Michael Swaney. The exhibition nicely hung against the clean backdrop and spacious venue looking like something that should not be missed if you are in the area.  More pics after the […]
