Previews: “New Classics” @ Galerie C.O.A.

On January 31st, Galerie C.O.A. in Montreal will be opening a group show curated by Sasha Bogojev featuring 11 international artists. Taking inspiration from renowned artistic movements or individual masters, these artists rework what they have learned to create New Classics. Participants include Eleanor Mccaughey, Pablo Benzo, Ted Pim, Erkut Terliksiz, Emilio Villalba, Sean Norvet, Kathy Ager, Julio Anaya Cabanding, Doping-Pong, Aldo Sergio (seen above), and Mathieu Cherkit.

Tonight in Los Angeles, Copro Gallery will be opening a group show curated by artist Chet Zar (interviewed) and collector, author, musician Jeremy Wagner. Entitled CONJOINED VS. GROTESQUE, the show slanted towards the dark arts will continue Zar’s series of shows mainly featuring sculptural work as well as painting and drawings from fine artists, motion picture and music industry artists, and special F/X technicians. Jeff Soto for Empellón Al Pastor (New York)

After creating murals for Empellón Taqueria in New York a few years ago (covered), Jeff Soto (interviewed) has returned to paint for another restaurant from chef Alex Stupak. Empellón Al Pastor in the Pod 39 Hotel features three pieces from the Riverside, California-based artist utilizing his signature imagery. Coming up on March 2nd, Thinkspace in Los Angeles will continue to show Kevin Peterson with a new exhibition entitled Wild. Known for his beautiful paintings of children passing through urban environments with their animal companions, the Houston-based painter looks to not be deviating from this formula for his new body of work. Release: Jeremy Geddes – “Seven.Seventeen” Book

On January 15th (10am Melbourne time), Jeremy Geddes (interviewed) will be releasing a book he has been working on for quite some time. Seven.Seventeen captures the past decade of the Australian artist’s work and includes many gorgeous full page spreads of some of his most iconic images. Produced in an edition of 2000, the 22cm x 30cm and 200 page hardcover will come signed and numbered for $145AUD.
