Preview: Nicoletta Ceccoli – “Eye Candy” @ AFA NYC

San Marino-based painter Nicoletta Ceccoli (interviewed) will be presenting all new works tomorrow night (November 17th) at AFA NYC. Entitled Eye Candy, the collection of paintings on display will focus on the interplay between bitterness and sweetness. Releases: Camille Rose Garcia – “Winchester Hoot Doll”

Today at Noon (Pacific Time), Camille Rose Garcia (interviewed) will be releasing another hand-crafted plush on her webstore. The “Creamsicle” edition of her Winchester Hoot owl doll will be available in a classic, jumbo, and wee size and cost $25 – $80. Each ships with a mini info-booklet with story insert. Releases: FriendsWithYou – “I Am Malfi” & “I Am Malfi II”

The newly moved to Los Angeles FriendsWithYou released a set of two-color silkscreen prints today through Poster Child Prints featuring their most iconic character Malfi. Limited to an edition of 150 and sized at 24 x 36 inches, each one can be purchased separately (although they look better as a set), and are available here for $100. Openings: Kevin Peterson – “Amended” @ Thinkspace Gallery

Last week at the Thinkspace Gallery in Culver City, Kevin Peterson filled the main space (also see Jacub Gagnon’s work in the project room) with his new show entitled Amended. The paintings he chose to put on display featured his signature form of portraiture with children and animals juxtaposed with backgrounds full of graffiti and urban scenery (some of which had a retro feel to them). Preview: “LAX / HKG” @ Above Second Gallery

This Friday night (November 16th) in Hong Kong, the Above Second Gallery will be opening their LAX / HKG group exhibition (curated by Thinkspace). Featuring a strong lineup of Amy Sol (above), Audrey Kawasaki, Brian M. Viveros, Dabs Myla, Esao Andrews, Joao Ruas, Linnea Strid, and Yosuke Ueno, the showing will sure to be well received by local fans. Leading off this week’s Rewind of art videos is a sweet film from Andrew Telling documenting Conor Harrington’s (interviewed) trip to Vardø, Norway for Komafest (covered). Preview: Kozyndan – “Breaking Circles, Broken Light” @ Narwhal Gallery

On Friday night (November 16th), Kozyndan will be returning to Canada for an exhibition entitled Breaking Circles, Broken Light at the Narwhal Gallery in Toronto. Included in the exhibition are 25 paintings, 6 ceramic sculptures and 3 resin sculptures all based on various endangered animals in a more experimental show for the husband and wife duo where they try all kinds of new mediums. Last Friday, AM traveled to Seattle to attend a couple shows at the Roq La Rue Gallery. Not only did we have the privilege to enjoy Josh Keyes’ fantastic new paintings, but we also took time to take in John Brophy’s new body of work entitled New Songs for the Standard Model. Brophy’s intense imagery often features scientific formulas, symbology, Asian-influenced references and artifacts of the modern world. Upcoming: Femke Hiemstra – “Let The Devil Wear Black” @ Roq La Rue

Next month in Seattle, the Roq La Rue Gallery will be hosting a joint show with Femke Hiemstra and Ryan Heshka entitled Let The Devil Wear Black. Hiemstra has been spending lots of time on an new body of work featuring her anthropomorphized animals and their surreal adventures – all rendered exquisitely. Here are some glimpses of the Dutch artist’s new painting, but plan to attend the opening (scheduled for December 7th) if you are in the area. Discuss Femke Hiemstra here.

Last weekend, Canadian painter Jacub Gagnon (interviewed) put his new work, collectively entitled More Human Than Human, on display in the Thinkspace project room. The sold out show of seven pieces featured his surreal renderings of wildlife set against a stark black background combining his creatures with objects often dictated by a clever play on words.
