This Saturday sees a new gallery in the city of Oakland open its doors with a group exhibition entitled House Warming. When Athen B. Upcoming: “MONOCHROME” @ HHH Gallery

This Saturday night, June 13th, the HHH Gallery in Tokyo will be hosting a new group exhibition entitled MONOCHROME. Curated by Usugrow, one of the co-founders of the gallery along with Haroshi, the show will include pieces from Aaron Horkey, Mike Giant, SHOHEI, Kyotaro (seen above), Toshikazu Nozaka, Ozabu, Sadam, and Usugrow. The work will be created with pencils, mechanical pencils, black markers, ink pens, ink brushes, and everyday ballpoint pens, and although complex, will be monochromic as referenced by the title of the show. Last weekend, Spoke Art in San Francisco welcomed back Casey Weldon (featured) for a third solo show at their space entitled Tropefiend. Alice Gallery in Brussels recently opened Salut, the first Belgium solo show by artist, designer, and illustrator, Parra. The show features a new body of work that includes drawings, paintings, and a large sculpture titled Give Up. With the fresh collection of works, Parra has gone back to mixing his signature lettering along with recognizable female figures. Curvaceous and naked, these blue ladies with beak faces are engaged in bizarre, often sexual activities. Currently at Driscoll Babcock Galleries in New York, All We Have Is Now is on display from Jenny Morgan. The series of paintings utilizing vivid oversaturated colors are striking in their raw honesty and emotive value. Based thematically on her thoughts on life, death, and rebirth, the new work shows the NYC-based artist skills while deftly alternating between stark portraiture and surreal imagery. Upcoming: Josh Keyes @ Antler Gallery

On July 30th, Josh Keyes (interviewed) will be returning to the Antler Gallery in Portland for another showing (see 2014). If this glimpse into the new body of work is any indication, the locally-based artist has further refined his new aesthetic that takes his imagery all the way to the edge of the panels he paints on. This new 12 x 18″ piece is entitled Quake, and has us excited to see the fresh set of works when the exhibition opens. Discuss Josh Keyes here.
