This Saturday, June 6th, one of the most anticipated shows of the year from the Candy Cotton Machine, Tiny Trifecta, will be opening. Currently at Legion in San Francisco, Evah Fan has a series of works on display entitled A Waffle Lot. Curated by Alice Wu, the solo from the Oakland-based artist features gouache paintings on wood panels and paper, new prints, zines, and multiples. Fan’s human or animal subjects are often small when compared to the size of her pieces, which allows them room to wander freely in their environment, often times without standard boundaries. Releases: Mark Ryden – “Apis Ectoplasm” Print

Tomorrow, May 29th, at 8 AM PDT, Porterhouse will be releasing a new print from Mark Ryden entitled Apis Ectoplasm. The print was made in collaboration with the Beyond Brookledge event and comes in an edition size of 100 (only 30 are available tomorrow). On June 6th, Casey Weldon (featured) will be opening a new show at Spoke Art in San Francisco entitled Tropefiend. Seen above is Snakehold, a new painting from the upcoming exhibition, is a good example of the Seattle-based artist’s penchant for unique color palettes and surreal imagery. Coming up in October of this year, Martin Wittfooth (interviewed) will be opening a solo show at Jonathan LeVine Gallery in New York. The last showing we attended in NY for the locally-based artist was back in 2011 (covered), so we are anxious to see what he has cooked up for an encore. Earlier this month, Roq la Rue welcomed back Travis Louie for his Archive of Lost Species solo show. Louie’s finely rendered acrylic paintings are once again on display, with his usual recipe of the odd and imaginary. Oscar Pennington and his travels take center stage as he documents strange and wild creatures found around the world. Yoskay Yamamoto x Unispace (DesignHive DTLA)

Last week in Downtown Los Angeles, Yoskay Yamamoto (interviewed) completed a new installation for the Unispace office. Curated by Branded Arts as part of the DesignHive DTLA event, the mural and hanging sculptures from the locally-based artist played with the idea of a technology cloud with his raindrop sculptures representing data coming down from the cloud and back to the earth. After sharing some in-progress shots of the murals going up at the Worcester Art Museum in Massachusetts in association with the Samurai! show (co-curated by Eric Nakamura, editor and founder of Giant Robot Magazine), we now have a look at the finished walls. Audrey Kawasaki took the high road painting one of her beauties on the second floor balcony of the Lancaster Lobby while Mari Inukai went underneath her, also making a play on the Japanese-themed exhibition with her imagery. On Saturday, May 23rd, Thinkspace will be opening a solo show from Ariel DeAndrea entitled Chasing the Current. Her subject matter of choice for her oil paintings are paper cranes floating in bodies of water, referenced from photos she takes herself and derived from her origami skills (you can get a good idea of her process in the video below).
