Following our recently curated group exhibitions in Hong Kong; East West Connect and Los Angeles; City of Fire, AM’s UK correspondent Sven Davis has branched out with his own curatorial endeavour Space//Form. The group exhibition brings together over 100 young contemporary artists, and opens 6th September at Portland’s Breeze Block Gallery. Curator, Sven Davis, has worked in architecture for over 20 years, so the thematic center of the exhibition is close to his heart as Space//Form centers around notions of the architectural landscape. Each of the […]

It was said that The Friends of Tony Romanoff was to be curated by Lucas Price, but the intriguing press release we read for this show was so ambiguous that AM didn’t quite know what to expect. The exhibition, which opened last Thursday, as we kind of expected, turned out to be a collection of new work authored solely by Lucas. Pure Evil Gallery played host to the exhibition, which was a refreshing change to see Lucas’ more contemporary side emerging, based around mixed media […]
Lucas Price seems to be an artist in an ever changing state of evolution. His last major UK solo show Jesus Help Me Find My Proper Place suggested a level of confusion within its title – the work exhibited was produced in a variety of styles in an almost perfect allegory for his life as a fine artist under his own name, and also his street bombing alter ego of Cyclops. The work in the accomplished exhibition suggested that the artist had been in a […]
AM heard some sad news a couple of weeks ago that Burning Candy member Rowdy lost just about everything he owned in a fire that destroyed his home and painting studio. Rowdy had popped out of his flat in Bristol for a short time only to return and find the building engulfed in flames. In a moment, everything was gone – even one of his most prized possessions, this piece of sartorial elegance, the psychedelic church sweater seen in the picture above sent onto us […]
Inspired by the resident ghost of the notorious Victorian bookseller F.J. Williams, Black Rat Projects (formerly the Black Rat Press) are celebrating the festive season with the installation and launch of Black Dog Books on 2nd December. This pop-up emporium will be located within the gallery and promises the finest in new and old books including hand made fanzines, films and artwork by Swoon (interviewed), Burning Candy, Giles Walker, Brian Adam Douglas aka Elbow-Toe (interviewed), Lucas Price aka Cyclops (interviewed) and others. Designed by members […]
The annual Black Rat Press Print Show (previewed with interview) last week was a success again with scores of fans and collectors turning out to meet artists and learn a little more about the print-making process. Take a look at the show as well as a little video after the jump.
If last year’s event is anything to go by, the Black Rat Press Annual Print Show in London, opening on Saturday, 21st February will be worth checking out. The chance to see printmaking demonstrations, ask the printers questions, as well as check out new editions, trial proofs, hand colored rarities, and other treats from the Black Rat Press’ stable of artists could well make this one rather special. Artists involved include Matt Small (above), D*Face, Sweettoof, Brian Adam Douglas, Gaia, Lucas Price, Nick Walker, Blek […]
As previously mentioned, Black Rat Press exhibited at the London Art Fair where they showed works by Swoon, Matt Small, Lucas Price, Asha Zero, Brian Adam Douglas, D*Face and Nick Walker. As expected, Walker’s print sold out, but there were actually some pretty good originals available. In particular, Swoon’s and Matt Small’s pieces were quite strong. Take a look after the jump.

Black Rat Press’ annual group show “White Noise” will open tonight featuring D*Face, Nick Walker, Blek Le Rat, Lucas Price, Asha Zero, Matt Small and Brian Adam Douglas. Luckily for us and our readers, we were able to see some advance photos from the special preview event last night. We love how lighting effects and ambience really highlighted each piece of art nicely. Some favorites as well as all the photos after the jump.
