We all hit bumps in the road, but with a little help we can all overcome any obstacles. As mentioned previously, a good friend of AM and assistant director of Joshua Liner Gallery, Tim Strazza, was unfortunately diagnosed with a Multiple Sclerosis. Yesterday, on a beautiful sunny afternoon at Barnsdall Park in East Hollywood, the 2011 City of Los Angeles (C.O.L.A.) Release: Mark Dean Veca – The Hundreds Skate Deck & Shoe

Continuing his collaboration with The Hundreds, Mark Dean Veca (interviewed) will be releasing a skate deck and kicks (Johnson Mid) featuring his signature “Toile de Jouy” abstractions. The shoe’s pattern is based on the image above which is also chock full of pop references like Hank Williams, Franz Kline, Ed Ruscha’s Hollywood Sign, Lil’ Annie Fannie, and Green Eggs and Ham. It looks like Mark Dean Veca (interviewed) is tackling another pop icon for his upcoming C.O.L.A. Fellowship exhibition at the Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery. Oh Yeah!  Here is a little teaser for the upcoming C.O.L.A. Fellowship exhibition in May at the Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery. Each year the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs (DCA) awards Individual Artist Fellowships to thirteen exemplary midcareer visual, performing and literary artists and our friend Mark Dean Veca’s (interviewed) was chosen as one of the recipients.
