Following in a long line of Sanrio themed group shows, the Hello Kitty 45th Anniversary Group Show opened last month at the Corey Helford Gallery in Los Angeles. Drawing on the talents of a large roster of artists, the exhibition features a varied selection of artwork inspired by the famous bowed feline. Openings: “Wider than a postcard” & olive47 – “bonita bonita” @ Breeze Block Gallery

Breeze Block Gallery opened their huge group show Wider than a postcard (previewed) alongside the first solo show in their new gallery 2 space – olive47’s bonita bonita (featured) a couple of weeks back to a packed Portland crowd. Over 400 individual works went into the postcard show with 200 artists providing postcard sized works. On the back of his Space//Form group exhibition last year (covered), Arrested Motion’s Sven Davis is working with Breeze Block Gallery in Portland again on another huge group event entitled Wider than a postcard. Mike Stilkey sent us some flicks of a recent mural he painted in Los Angeles. The 13 x 14 foot mural was painted outside of a photography studio in La Brea. One of the busiest indoor malls (with more than 200,000 visitors a day) in Hong Kong’s Time Square recently played host to the work of Mike Stilkey (interviewed). The entire ground floor featured some of his signature book / painting installations with the largest piece standing 24 feet high. The Los Angeles-based artist had already worked in Asia earlier in the year installing his work at high end retail giant Joyce for their flagship stores in Hong Kong and Beijing.
