Last night, AM attended the early viewing of Brian Donnelly’s (a.k.a. KAWS) latest museum exhibition Downtime and artist talk at the High Museum of Art in Atlanta. The impressive multi-level showcase featured both old and new works from the Brooklyn based artist. A unique and rare opportunity has come up in Los Angeles for fans of explosive Chinese artist Cai Guo-Qiang. The MOCA will be hosting his first solo exhibition soon on the West Coast and as part of the showing, Cai will be creating three new gunpowder drawings with assistance of local volunteers. For those curious about the Takashi Murakami exhibition at the Qatar Museum that opened today, which included a large inflatable replica of the artist, here are some photos for you. With these shots, you can see more clearly the vision for this showing that the renowned Japanese artist had. AM was at Tate Modern on Tuesday to visit the major retrospective by Yayoi Kusama, whose separate show at Brisbane’s Gallery of Modern Art we recently covered. The London exhibition is spread over fourteen rooms and features a selection of works — drawing, painting, collage, film, sculpture and installation — spanning a period of six decades. Opening tonight in New York is a special group show put together by the Museum of Sex. This provocative showing features 20 street artists including Mode2, Aiko, Rostarr, Miss Van, and Lush as they occupy the building with works that further push the boundaries of their viewpoints of sexuality and relationships (some more subtle than others). Last week in Texas, the International Museum of Art and Science hosted a selection of fiberglass and silicone creations from Colin Christian (interviewed). Made up of a series of his signature cyber-erotic sculptures, Fast Forward features a body of work inspired by the Colin’s love for “sci-fi movies, pinup girls, anime, ambient electronic music, and author, H.P.
