Videos: Ai Weiwei – “Art / Architecture” @ The Kunsthaus

The Kunsthaus in Bregenz, Austria recently opened up an exhibition Art / Architecture that explores the lesser known architectural work of the recently released Ai Weiwei. It’s certainly encouraging to see the Chinese artist continue to exhibit despite his imprisonment as well as him starting to enter social media again (Instagram & Twitter – English translation). Teaser: James Jean – Rebus book launch and signing @ LACMA

On August 28th, the LACMA will be hosting a signing and launch for James Jean’s (featured) newest book Rebus. Not only will James as well as friend Eric Nakamura (Giant Robot) be on hand reflect on their shared history, some of the artist’s treasured sketchbooks will be on display as well. The historic Art in the Streets exhibition is drawing to a close soon with the last day scheduled for August 8th. For street art and graffiti fans out there who haven’t made the trek over to the MOCA yet, make sure you put it on your to do list as you will regret not visiting. Perhaps this new video sent to us by Juan Enriquez will give you some encouragement. The footage includes interview with CornBread, Freedom, Mr. Cartoon, and Shepard Fairey. Discuss this show here.

South Yorks represent! Kid Acne’s solo exhibition Kill Your Darlings launches this Friday 22nd July at Museums-Sheffield’s Millenium Gallery. A long time resident of Sheffield, this is surprisingly Kid Acne’s first solo exhibit in the city, and follows a pair of solo exhibitions in London at Concrete Hermit and Stolenspace over the last year. The intriguing title alludes to a motto first coined by William Faulkner, and used by writers to describe the action of cutting the most cherished characters and scenes from their story. […]

This weekend at the MOCA, some of Andy Warhol’s most iconic work will be on display to the public. Campbell’s Soup Cans will be presented for the first time at the Los Angeles museum and is a celebration of the original exhibition at Ferus Gallery, his first solo showing all the way back in 1962. Perhaps KAWS had a sixth sense as to what was going to happen when he placed his Passing Through Companion at The Standard in New York recently. The street art and graffiti community was saddened as news has came today that the Brooklyn Museum has cancelled the scheduled next stop for the current Art in the Streets exhibition currently showing at the MOCA. Look familiar? Yes, it’s another sweet installation from Swoon (interviewed), this time at the New Orleans Museum of Art (NOMA). Just as stunning as her light-infused piece from the Art in the Streets exhibition, this suspended ocean goddess is entitled Thalassa and is made of wood & paper and located above NOMA’s Great Hall with layered tentacles created from scavenged materials stretching to the mezzanine.
