Showing: Armsrock – “Impossible Society” @ Vejle Museum of Art

Back in August, we brought you some photos of the work that Armsrock (interviewed) was preparing for Impossible Society, his exhibition at the Vejle Museum of Art in Denmark. The show is now on view through December 4th and really shows a maturity in the Danish artist’s work as well the type of scale that he is painting in now. More photos after the jump…

Openings: Osgemeos – “Fermata” @ Museu Vale (Brazil)

Words cannot begin to describe the wonderment and joy one feels when confronted by these photos of the new Osgemeos exhibition at the Museu Vale in Brazil. It seems the twins always seem to save their best for the museums in their home country (see Vertigo and Vertigem), as well they should. From the complex sculptural builds featuring intricate inclusions of various art items and paraphernalia, to the grand expansion of the well received multi-colored stripes seen in some of their recent work, to their […]

Teasers: KAWS – “FOCUS:KAWS” @ Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth

In the wake of Hold the Line last month in Los Angeles, KAWS will upgrade his relentless work ethic to the museum level over the ensuing year. We first saw the Brooklyn-based artist make his museum solo debut last summer at The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum in Connecticut. Then, with a host of museum group exhibitions already under his belt, Jeffrey Deitch selected him for their record setting exhibition Art in the Streets this past spring at MOCA. Now, the surging contemporary artist will have […]

Previews: Os Gemeos – “Fermata” @ Museu Vale (Brazil)

After completing their fanciful floating installation in Brazil over the summer and doing their mural thing at the Kauno Bienalé in Lithuania last month, the ever-elusive Pandolfo twins are back in their home country again preparing for an exhibition at Museu Vale in Argolas. Despite executing some large scale installations at various venues over the past couple years, including Art in the Streets and Kindergarten this year and Pra quem mora lá, o céu é lá last October, Ferata will mark the first large scale […]

Nate Lowman / Dash Snow / Dan Colen – “Three Amigos” @ Galleria Massimo De Carlo (Rome)

Affectionately referred to a “Warhol’s Children” in an in-depth New York Magazine article from 2007, the group of New York outcasts from the so-called “Bowery School” – including Dan Colen and Dash Snow (and Ryan McGinely, though not included in this event) – represented a new generation of provocative, scandalous, unique, and talented artists. Add Nate Lowman, another New York artist who represents the same ideals of the group of risk takers, into the equation with Colen and Dash and you have Three Amigos. Organized by […]

Showing: Ai Weiwei – “Circle of Friends / Zodiac Heads” @ LACMA

Prolific, yet increasingly mum (in the wake of his release from his illegal detention), Chinese artist Ai Weiwei has brought one of his six sets of larger than life bronze zodiac heads sculptures to Los Angeles. With previous installations over the summer in New York’s Central Park as well as in conjunction with his Lisson Gallery exhibition in London, Circle of Friends / Zodiac Heads is now on view at Los Angeles Country Museum of Art (LACMA). In his first public sculptural project ever, the […]

Swoon – “Anthropocene Extinction” @ ICA Boston

As we previewed the installation process a couple weeks back, Swoon (interviewed) has now completed her site-specific installation Anthropocene Extinction for The Institute of Contemporary Art/Boston (ICA). Commissioned by the ICA as the fifth – and largest to date – project for the Sandra and Gerald Fineberg Art Wall, SWOON’s impressive creation that addresses humanities impact on the environment is anchored by a mural that spans the entire length of the lobby and rises 40 feet to the ceiling. A large scale portrait one of […]

Preview / Installation: Swoon – “Anthropocene Extinction” @ Boston ICA

After presenting The Big Easy with her stunning Thalassa installation at the New Orleans Museum of Art in June, Swoon (interviewed) is moving on to her next project.  On the occasion of its 75th anniversary, The Institute of Contemporary Art/Boston (ICA) has commissioned the Brooklyn-based artist to create an installation for the Sandra and Gerald Fineberg Art Wall. The 400-pound, suspended bamboo sculpture entitled Anthropocene Extinction will soar over 40 feet, be accented by her signature labor intensive cut paper, and will be unveiled this Saturday, […]
