Openings: Neck Face – “Into Darkness” @ OHWOW (LA)

With wall to wall people and a line wrapped around the block, Neck Face proved for the second straight Halloween just why his nightmarish art and the pagan holiday are such a fitting marriage. OHWOW truly pulled out all the stops for the street artist’s Southern California homecoming exhibition, Into Darkness (previewed), where rowdy costume clad attendees enjoyed plenty of tricks and plenty of treats, including the obligatory haunted house to commemorate the evening as well as a full halfpipe and skate demonstration and plenty […]

Preview: Neck Face – “Into Darkness” @ OHWOW (LA)

With violent imagery and crude commentary, all wrapped up in a huge ball of satire, Neck Face will be triggering our collective fears with his newest solo exhibition, Into Darkness (teased). Opening on Halloween Sunday, the street artist has brought together an impressive collection of gouche and watercolor drawings, acrylic and enamel paintings and mixed media sculptures to OHWOW’s Hollywood pop-up gallery. A full-scale haunted house and skate demo will nicely round out the presentation for attendees, bringing the experiences into the fourth-dimension. If last […]

Teaser: REDU HOMEROOM @ Reed Space (NY)

It appears REDU will be continuing the hot streak of standout art events in the name of educational reform with REDU HOMEROOM. Aiming to “rethink public education by putting creativity and innovation back in the classrooms”, the pervasive non-profit will be teaming up OHWOW and Staple Design, as well as an extensive cast of corporate supporters including Bing, The New York Times, CAA Foundation and many more, to bring Manhattan’s Lower East Side a unique two-week artistic and fundraising event with 100% of the proceeds […]

Teaser: Neck Face – “Into Darkness” @ OHWOW (LA)

This Halloween, the City of Angles might as well be renamed the City of Demons in honor of Neck Face’s newest solo, Into Darkness. In what seems to be a perennial affair with Miami-based OHWOW, the notoriously enigmatic street artist will conjure the nightmarish iconography synonymous with the fall holiday – as well as his own art – in his trademarked sinister, satirical fashion. Just last year, the artist terrorized South Beach with his ghoulish imagery in a dramatic exhibit, comprised of works on paper […]

The show was everything we thought it would be and more – great art, an energetic crowd, and non-stop entertainment. AM congratulates Marsea Goldberg and the entire New Image Art team on an amazing fifteen years! See all the artwork and photos from the opening after the jump.

Setup: 15 Years of New Image Art

Tonight marks the opening of New Image Art’s anniversary show “15 Years of New Image Art” (previewed). AM swung by the gallery yesterday to check out the progress of the installation. While we were there, Judith Supine was putting on the finishing touches to his 18’x16′ kinetic sculpture and Neck Face was customizing a motorcycle in his uniquely raw style. In you’re in Los Angeles, don’t miss this milestone event! There are amazing pieces on hand from such notables as Aiko, Anthony Lister, Antonio Diaz, […]
