Earlier this month, Spoke Art’s New York location hosted the opening of Mark Drew’s new solo show. Entitled What Goes On?, the new body of work continues the Tokyo-based artist’s signature juxtaposition of Peanuts comics and 90s rap lyrics. The mashup of hip hop bars with Snoopy & gang by the Australian artist takes two presumably familiar elements for the viewer and generates a new refreshing point of view and interpretation. Recently in New York, Spoke Art opened a solo show from Dan Quintana entitled Tidepools. The exhibition sees the Los Angeles-based artist continue his dark and erie portraiture of beautiful women, oftentimes with surreal elements. Openings: Casey Gray – “Double Knotted” @ Hashimoto Contemporary

Last weekend, Double Knotted, Casey Gray’s first solo show with Hashimoto Contemporary opened in San Francisco. The new body of work from the locally-based artist continues his explorations of still life with his unique technique utilizing spray paint and hand-cut masking (check out the video below). Gray’s carefully curated selection of objects are arranged into vibrant compositions, a masterful example being the large 8 x 6 foot showstopper piece. On March 18th, Weinstein Gallery in San Francisco hosted a big comeback solo show by DALeast (interviewed). After more than a year of traveling and self discovery, the Chinese-born artist introduced a new body of work entitled Plasma. Basel Week ’16 / Openings: Wynwood Walls Exhibition

In addition to the new murals (covered) painted at Wynwood Walls for this year’s Basel Week Miami, Goldman Global Arts also opened an exhibition at the Garden House in the complex. The group show featured original paintings and sculptural works from many of the artists who have been involved with Wynwood Walls in the past. Three months since its debut at the Seattle Art Fair (covered), the Juxtapoz x Superflat group show co-curated by Juxtapoz editor, Evan Pricco and Takashi Murakami opened on the November 5th at the Vancouver Art Gallery. Staying on view until February 5th, the programming included a mixture of talks, lectures, tours, and special guests. Last night, Jacob Lewis Gallery held the opening reception for their inaugural show with Hajime Sorayama. A few weeks after announcing his representation, the Chelsea-based gallery revealed his newest body of work featuring his signature Sexy Robots. The 10 new acrylic paintings and one sculpture were created around the idea of re-inventing American icons. On June 25th, Thinkspace Gallery opened New Works, a double solo by artists Jeremy Fish and Jim Houser. Both artist built their careers through their love for drawing, music and skate culture, creating influential and distinctive works and graphics along the way.
