Showing: Claudio Ethos – “Intuitions sur le Hasard” @ Galerie Itinerrance

Last Friday, the Galerie Itinerrance in Paris presented all new works from Claudio Ethos entitled Intuitions sur le Hasard. Featuring paintings, drawings, and wall murals, the Brazilian street artist’s French fans were treated to his special surreal aesthetic. Beautifully rendered, his portraits of distorted characters mirrored closely what we have come to expect from his public art. Previews: Brendan Monroe – “Turning” @ Galerie LJ

Coinciding this week with the start of the FIAC art fair in Paris, Galerie LJ will opening Brendan Monroe’s (interviewed) latest solo show tomorrow (October 22). Entitled Turning, the exhibition will include a series of new paintings on paper and wood sculptures will continue the move towards abstraction in his recent work with imagery exploring his fascination with nature and its organic intricacies. Street artist and photographer Slinkachu recently was in Paris where he set up his Why is it so hard to find a job? series of work (construction worker, guard, saleswoman, scientist, and electrician) around town. Studio Visit: Jorge Rodriguez-Gerada

Earlier this year, we had the chance to visit Cuban-American artist Jorge Rodriguez-Gerada in his studio in Barcelona. Known for his large scale charcoal photorealistic portraits on buildings since the 90s, Jorge will be presenting a new solo show in Paris at Mathgoth Gallery on October 11th called TEXTURE URBAINE. La Tour 13 (Paris)

Over looking the Seine, La Tour Paris 13‎ is a project curated by Mehdi Ben Cheikh from Galerie Itinerrance. During a year, the entire building was painted by 100 international street and graffiti artists, each leaving their mark with murals and installations within the 36 apartments over 9 floors and cellars. Opening to the public for a month from October 1st, the building is due to be demolished in November, making it the largest temporary street art exhibition in France. Opening on September 7th, RECONSTRUCTION will be Rosson Crow’s (featured) third showing with the Galerie Nathalie Obadia in Paris. Continuing to explore the style of work we saw last year in Los Angeles (covered), the oil paintings focus their attention on the often violent history of the southern United States, where she is originally from. Examples include her renderings of the homes of plantation owners, funeral scenes, and a church where young African-American girls were killed in a bomb attack by the KKK. Streets: Ludo – “Mutant With Eagle Head” (Paris)

Ludo (interviewed) recently finished this huge mural in the 13th arrondissement of Paris, also known as arrondissement des Gobelins, titled Mutant With Eagle Head. As usual, the French artist has created another one of his signature mutant characters. These are strongly influenced by the flyers and skate deck imagery from the late 80’s early 90’s that the artist grew up with.
