Upcoming: José & Rey Parlá – “U.T.O.P.I.A.” @ colette

On September 3rd, the Parlá Brothers (José & Rey) will be presenting a new show in Paris at colette entitled U.T.O.P.I.A. The Brooklyn-based artists will be presenting a collaborative effort with José’s specialty being drawing and painting, while Rey is known for his photographs. It will be interesting to see how they plan to fuse their two artistic repertoires in this new body of work. Discuss José Parlá here.

Streets: Shepard Fairey – “Rise Above Rebel Woman” (Paris)

Shepard Fairey (featured) and the OBEY crew were recently in Paris for a new mural put together by the Mairie of 13th district, Mehdi from Galerie Itinerrance and Butterfly. The piece was part of a unfunded regeneration project of the area, called Street Art 13, which given has huge walls to many international artists. Openings: Vhils – “Entropy” @ Magda Danysz (Paris)

Like his currently showing exhibition in Lisbon (covered), master of all mediums Vhils (filmed) took the opportunity to showcase his versatility with a diverse selection for his newest solo at the Magda Danysz Paris location. After spreading his love with multiple murals throughout the city (including a map), fans of the Portugal-based street specialist finally got to see some of his indoor work including his new styrofoam pieces. Teaser: Aya Takano – “To Lose Is To Gain” @ Galerie Perrotin (Paris)

Coming up on June 23rd, Galerie Perrotin in Paris (Saint Claude location) will be opening To Lose Is To Gain, a new solo show from Aya Takano. The Japanese artist and former assistant to Murakami will be bringing her signature style of anime-influenced juxtaposition of natural forms in urban settings. Heavily influenced by her childhood readings of the natural sciences and science fiction, the work melds these interests with the techniques of the Superflat movement. Discuss Aya Takano here.

Streets: Nick Walker (Paris) Part II

After hitting up Paris with some street work (covered) back in February, Nick Walker (interviewed) has return for more. One of the walls (seen above) he painted was a mirror image of the piece he submitted for the Fifty Fifty group show that opened last week at Parisian showspace Mathgoth Galerie. Take a look at another piece from the Bristol-based artist after the jump…  As a bonus, we added another collaborative piece he painted with SheOne from his last trip there as well.

Teaser: “Fifty Fifty” @ Mathgoth Galerie

Tomorrow night (April 4th), Mathgoth Galerie in Paris will be opening their Fifty Fifty group exhibition. For this showing, artists were asked to work with 50 x 50 cm canvases to create whatever they wanted. Nick Walker (interviewed) sent over a look at what he submitted, but if you are in town you may want to also check out what C215, Cope2, Cornbread, Crash, Labrona, L’Atlas, Smash137, Tilt, Zevs, and more have contributed.
