Previews: Max Snow – “Lock, Stock and Teardrops” @ DUVE Berlin

Opening tomorrow, October 29th, Max Snow will present a new body of work revolving around the theme of pain at DUVE Berlin in Germany. In a two-person exhibition alongside Ali Kepenek, Lock, Stock and Teardops focuses on portraits of individuals laden with scars, both literal and figurative. The New York-based artist’s signature black-and-white photographs, intimate and melancholic, are at times as uncomfortable as they are sublime. The exhibition runs through Saturday, December 10th. Over the weekend, Rivera Gallery unveiled a truly impressive exhibit titled anthro(physis), a show which fused in very interesting ways a variety of artwork ranging from sculpture to paintings. On display through November 30th at Peter Fetterman Gallery is an exhibition of works, entitled Iconic Photographs, from Steve McCurry, which chronicle the famous American photojournaist’s most important images. Ai Weiwei – W Magazine’s 2011 Art Issue

The recently named (according to ArtReview) most powerful artist in the world, Ai Weiwei, has broken his silence over his “enforced disappearance” with an interview in W Magazine’s upcoming sixth annual art issue. The Chinese artist and dissident also directed the cover shoot by Max Vadukul in a series of shots inspired by his own photography while living in NYC in the 80’s including images from the Tompkins Square riots. Booooooom Remake Contest

Our friends over at Booooooom currently have a contest running that tests your composition as well as photography skills. In conjunction with Adobe, the website is taking entries for their Remake competition where participants are encouraged to re-imagine one of their favorite pieces of art, stage the replica, and then submit a photograph of it. The recent opening of a third gallery space in London confirms White Cube ongoing strength, and its presence at the Frieze Art Fair is nothing less than spectacular. The booth features some impressive works by the gallery’s roster of artists such as Jake and Dinos Chapman, Marc Quinn, Damien Hirst, Andreas Gursky, and Tracey Emin to name a few. A couple weeks ago, the Carmichael Gallery hosted an exhibition from influential photographers and Angelenos Eriberto and Estevan Oriol. The retrospective featured select images from the father and son duo and documented their well-known love affair with LA Latino street life, street art, and graffiti with decades of work under their belt.
