Graduating with a degree from the prestigious Southern California Institute of Architecture (aka SCI-Arc), coupled with a keen interest in photography has resulted in masterful and technically precise architectural captures. In May, we shared with you the amazing takeover by JR (interviewed) at the famous Louvre in Paris where he pasted over the iconic pyramid using photographs of the surrounding structures. Looking at the right angle, it appeared that the pyramid in the main courtyard “disappears” from sight. Who better to collaborate with next in an inception-like project than with China’s disappearing man – Liu Bolin? Over the last week, JR (interviewed) has been working on his latest high profile project – painting the iconic pyramid at the Louvre. The plan is to paste for the French “photograffeur” to paste a photo over the glass structure mimicking the building behind, leading to it “disappearing” from sight. AM contributing photographer and world traveler, Karl Hab, recently released a book about his experiences in Los Angeles. Entitled 24H LOS ANGELES, the 196 page publication (introduction by Daniel Arsham) has no page numbers, but instead features hours corresponding to these times: morning, noon, afternoon and evening. Curated by one of our own here at AM, Khoi Nguyen, a one-night only exhibition from photographer Quam Odunsi will open on March 31st in Los Angeles (3278 Wilshire Blvd). Entitled Hollywood, the show is presented by The Art of Elysium with proceeds to benefit the nonprofit dedicated to enriching the lives of artists and critically ill children. The disturbing photo of the Syrian child Alan Kurdi laying drowned on the beach has become an a rallying point for those concerned about the refugee crisis. Chinese artist and dissident Ai Weiwei recently posed as the boy for a photograph shot by Rohit Chawla for an upcoming issue of one of India’s largest news publications – India Today. Earlier this year, we shared with you the special project that the New York Times Magazine collaborated on with JR (interviewed) for their Walking New York issue. That cover that resulted from that endeavor has now been released by the French “photograffeur” as a 8 color lithograph through Social Animals.
