Releases: RIME – “Arrest Sheets (Felony Edition)”

This Friday (February 8th) at 12pm EST, fans of RIME will see a pretty unique release through the good people at 1xRUN. The Arrest Sheets portfolios are priced at a hefty $500 but you get a lot for your money as the edition (run of 30) includes drawings (like the ones here) as well as hand embellished prints & folders with each being unique. Each set will contain a minimum of 4 embellished pieces personally done by the MSK-affiliated artist. You can check out all the details […]

Sketchbook: RIME

For those of you who have been following the street murals from RIME (aka Jersey Joe), you will have seen some of the luscious caricatured females that make it into his imagery (i.e.: here and here). As you would expect, many of these characters make it onto the pages of his sketchbook before going up on the walls – a glimpse of which we can see posted to his instagram account in recent days. Rewind: Dec 17 – Dec 23

With the return of the Rewind article, our first since Basel Week Miami, it only seems appropriate that the featured video is from Art Basel. The footage follows chairman and president of the Calder Foundation, Alexander S.C. Rower, as he explains two prime examples of the famed artist’s work – the white Snow Flurry mobile and an Untitled black piece (never seen before in public). Check the fascinating below as Rower explains the significance and back story of each piece… Other notable videos include: Ann […]

Streets: World Roundup (Oct 29 – Nov 4)

This week’s Streets: World Roundup feature is headlined by a new mural (photo by Lois Stavsky) in New York City by Ron English, who worked overtime to finish it before Hurricane Sandy hit. The piece (on Mulberry Street between Canal and Hester in New York’s Little Italy) depicting his Temper Tot character is a English’s first mural in Manhattan in about 25 years as part of The New York Comedy Festival and Vandalog’s series of indoor and outdoor installations collectively titled The Art of Comedy. If you are interested, you can join their The […]

Streets: RIME x Converse (New York)

After recently joining some friends for a burner on the rooftops of Brooklyn, RIME returns with another mural in BK (on Grand and Union). Like another piece we highlighted from David Ellis (here), this wall from the MSK-affiliated graffiti artist was secured by Converse. If you look carefully, you’ll see the shoe company’s signature star mixed in with the familiar cartoonish imagery of the artist otherwise known as Jersey Joe. Photo credit: Public Ad Campaign. Streets: RIME, DG, and TOPER

After working with TOPER on a collaboration in New York back in July (covered), RIME (aka Jersey Joe) has joined forces again with the Queens-based SMART crew member  on a new mural. This time, with the skills of NG as well, they hit the rooftops of Brooklyn with a new piece featuring thugged out versions of Felix The Cat, Mighty Mouse, and Top Cat. Check out the full wall below as well as more detailed shots. Photos via the artist. Discuss RIME here.

Streets: REVOK x RIME (Detroit)

Featuring two graf legends who have mastered a aesthetic of their own, this recent collaboration from REVOK and RIME really hit the spot. Entitled A MAN’s THREAT & A WOMAN’s PET, the mural combined many elements from the two MSK brothers’ work including the figurative stylings of Jersey Joe and the strength of lettering from REVOK. Check out all the sick details of this complex and layered piece below… Photo via The Seventh Letter & REVOK. Discuss REVOK here. Discuss RIME here.

Streets: World Roundup (July 23 – July 29)

This week’s roundup sees the return of David Ellis to the streets after the massive mural painted in Brooklyn last month. This latest tree piece was commissioned by Converse as part of they Wall to Wall campaign and features Ellis’ sinuous pattern (photo by Justin Carlson and courtesy of Joshua Liner Gallery). The location is on 23rd Street and 12th Ave in Chelsea, just a short walk from the Joshua Liner Gallery which recently curated a show with Ellis and Kris Kuksi in Los Angeles.  Other notable work this week […]

Streets: RIME, DCEVE, and TOPER (New York)

The Los Angeles-based and MSK-affiliated RIME recently made the trip out to New York for this standout wall including the names of Smart Crew members DCEVE and TOPER. As evidenced by his other moniker “Jersey Joe”, RIME has roots and experience getting up in the area which he used to full advantage with this rooftop collaboration or tribute. While there, he also painted an outline of a sketch NYC’s HAZE did of RIME’s name in an alley under the Manhattan Bridge (set up by Klughaus Gallery). Via […]

Streets: World Roundup (June 4 – June 10)

Our Streets: World Roundup feature returns this week with a summary of murals you may have missed out on. Our highlighted piece this time is this monster collaboration from REVOK and RIME of MSK fame for the Detroit Beautification Project. It almost makes AM want to take a trip to the much maligned Motor City to see all the walls for themselves, proof that the project is working. Other notable murals include work from: Jaz – France (source), Graphic Surgery (Poland), Remi/Rough (Melbourne), Dal East […]
