Rewind: Oct 7 – Oct 13

It’s been quite a while since our last Rewind feature, so it’s high time we bring you some videos. Starting things off is an explicit new music video from  Tyler, The Creator entitled Tamale. If you recognize the scene from 0:48 – 1:02, it’s because it is a scene based of a Mark Ryden painting who also designed the cover for his new album – Wolf. Other notable videos: An interview with Anthony Lister at Wynwood Miami last May. ROA, Phlegm and others recreate famous Baroque paintings. RuPaul drives […]

Previews: John Dolan – “George The Dog, John The Artist” @ Howard Griffin Gallery

Tonight (7pm) at the Howard Griffin Gallery (189-190 Shoreditch High Street) in London, a special show from John Dolan will be opening featuring his drawings and collaborations with many street and graffiti artists. Dolan has been a fixture in Shoreditch, sitting in the same spot for the last three years with his faithful canine companion drawing the changing urban landscape of the area while interacting with many of the artists that create public art in the area. With a 20 year history of homelessness himself, […]

Streets: World Roundup (July 15 – 21)

It’s been a while since we had a streets round up here on AM so we have some catching up to do. Leading off things for recent street activity around the world is this new mural (photo via SAN) from Conor Harrington (interviewed) in Rochester, New York. The wall was painted for the ongoing WALL\THERAPY festival and features the UK-based painters signature mix of colonialism, abstraction, and photorealism. Other notable murals include work from: Proembrion – Poland (source), Ericailcane x Bastardilla – Italy (source), Herbert Baglione x SAN […]

Showing: ROA – “PAN-ROA’S Box” @ INOPERAbLE

You may remember street nomad ROA’s successful show at INOPERAbLE back in 2011 (covered). With a schedule that includes traveling more often than not, the in-demand street muralist only recently stopped by his home country for an exhibition (covered), before he headed out to Vienna again for PAN-ROA’S Box. Featuring a signature mix of found objects and interactive paintings of his dissected animal characters, the exhibition is a worthy destination for those in the area through August 31st. Streets: World Roundup (May 6 – May 12)

After revealing a new piece last month with strong placement from Invader in Paris, our Streets World Roundup feature returns with another piece playing with some nostalgic characters from childhood for most of us. The new Star Wars mosaic is part of his recent attack on London of which you can check out more photos of here. Other worthy walls come from Anders Gjennestad – Norway. Anthony Lister – Miami (source), Wild Drawing – Greece (source), La Pandilla – Arizona (source), Phlegm x Run – UK (source), LNY – Philadelphia […]

Videos: ROA x Stop Over

If you remember from earlier this year, Belgium-based artist ROA put on a homecoming show in Brussels at Bodson-Emelinckx Gallery entitled Stop Over. Although we covered the exhibition extensively, photos sometimes don’t do justice to the interactive nature of his works. This latest video that Colin M. Day put together follows the street muralist as he hunted in the city for found materials and also includes footage of the opening as patrons and collectors played with the panels and moveable parts to ROA’s pieces. As a bonus, also check […]

Releases: ROA – “SK8room Skatedecks”

Belgium-based ROA, who recently had a solo showing in his home country (covered), has also been working on a project with SK8room. The set of three decks (Decay 1, 2, & 3) featuring the street artist’s anatomical style are the result of  a trip to Cambodia, to meet the guys from Skateistan (20% of sales go to them) in Phnom Penh, a not-for-profit organization that teaches empowerment through skateboarding to children in impoverished countries. Take a look at the trip in the video below and for those interested, […]

Openings: ROA – “Stop Over” @ Bodson-Emelinckx

After sharing some shots of ROA hard at work setting up his show in Brussels, it’s now time to check out the fruits of his labor. Stop Over at Bodson-Emelinckx Gallery opened to a packed house as the Belgium-based artist’s home country’s fans came out in force to support the street muralist. The showing featured multiple installations imitating a laboratory that are similar to what ROA has done in the past, but this latest iteration looked very refined and finished. Paintings on found objects were nestled […]
