Streets: G40 – Aryz, ROA, Jaz, Pixel Pancho, Gaia (Part 1)

It looks like the G40 Art Summit in Richmond, Virginia that we mentioned earlier has kicked off with murals going up at multiple locations around town. Starting things off were Aryz with a massive still-life, ROA with a bird and arrow, Jaz with six lions, Pixel Pancho with two walls in his signature robotic style, and Gaia with his hands and dove. We’ll be bringing you more as the artists plan to get up more than once and as more participants arrive. More photos after the […]

Streets: ROA (Belgium)

Sometimes it’s hard to remember that busy international traveler and prolific street muralist ROA is from Belgium based on so many of his works popping up around the world (most recently in Stockholm). We can finally show you something painted in his home country (for the the generically named Street Art Festival) with again some nice incorporation of architectural elements into the piece (windows used as the perch). Tipped off by Nuart. Discuss ROA here.

Showing: ROA – “Defragmentation” @ The Scarlett Gallery

As we reported on earlier this month, not only did ROA reveal a new body of work entitled Fragments at the Scarlett Gallery in Stockholm (covered), he also created a separate special installation for his fans in Sweden. Defragmentation features his animalistic anatomical works in the form of wall murals and individual paintings with the Belgium-based street muralist’s signature movable panels. More photos of the show by Anthony Hill and Henrik Haven after the jump…

Showing: ROA – “Fragments” @ The Scarlett Gallery

As you saw from our preview and look at his street work in Stockholm, ROA was recently hosted by the Scarlett Gallery in Sweden in a two-part event. First up is Fragments, where the Belgium-based street muralist put on a showing where the inside space was converted into a makeshift laboratory and workshop where his imagery was painted on bottles, tool boxes, pinned onto a bulletin, and on found objects. More photos of the show by Anthony Hill after the jump…

Streets: ROA (Stockholm)

In contrast to the tropical weather AM is experiencing here in Hawaii for POW WOW, it looks like Stockholm is still experiencing a cold front. As you must know by now after reading our preview article, ROA was in Sweden for a solo show recently (more on this later). While there, the Belgium street muralist braved the snow to put up this seal piece for his fans to enjoy. More photos after the jump…

Preview / Installation: ROA – “Defragmentation” & “Fragments” @ The Scarlett Gallery

The last time we touched on the work of the prolific Belgium-based ROA was when we came across some of his murals during Art Basel Week Miami (here & here). And, the last time we witnessed an indoor showing from the anatomically-inclined artist was in Australia (covered) back in October. Well, we’re happy to report that he has two concurrent exhibitions planned very soon in Stockholm, one on the 17th at a yet-to-be-announced secret location entitled Defragmentation and another entitled Fragments on the 18th at the […]

Openings: Wooster Collective & Natalia Fabia @ Jonathan LeVine

Last weekend, the Jonathan LeVine Gallery kicked off the new year with two fresh shows. First was an exhibition curated by one of our favorite street art blogs – the Wooster Collective. Entitled Hybrid Thinking, the group show featured great works from DAL, Herakut, HYURO, ROA, SIT and VINZ. The other room showcased paintings from LA-based artist Natalia Fabia (interviewed) with a solo entitled Punk Rock Rainbow Sparkle. For this new body of work, Natalia focused her considerable talents on the subjects of raw punk […]

Basel Week Miami ’11 / Streets: ROA

Other than the collaboration with Eine, the ever hustling ROA also found time for other projects while in town for Art Basel Week (like the wall you see above). We are always fascinated by the ways the Belgium-based street painter works in unique architectural quirks into his milieu of anatomized animal murals. This piece above is no different with this marine friend of his chopped in half by a wall element with some copious drips emphasizing the point. More detailed photos after the jump…

Basel Week Miami ’11: Scope

One of the satellite fairs we attended during Art Basel Week Miami was Scope. Housing a variety of genres, we saw a healthy mix of street art, low brow and emerging contemporary art working together as gallerists brought work from artists which you may be familiar with. From OsGemeos to Roa, Ron English to Ray Caesar, Aakash Nihalani to Jenny Morgan, there seemed to be something for everyone at this fair. Check out more photos after the jump.
