Basel Week Miami ’11 / Streets: Eine & ROA for DIY // MIA

While on our way to hit up a plethora of shows associated with Art Basel Week Miami last night at the Design District, we passed by the The Living Room installation. The two-wall open structure is a whimsical and out-of-scale replica of a living room at an intersection that had been rundown as of late, but has been revitalized for this year’s art extravaganza with murals from Ben Eine and ROA for the three day music and art event  DIY // MIA sponsored by AE District Gallery, AlmostFamous.com, […]

Showing: ROA – “Paradox” @ FORM Gallery

If you remember back in July, Belgium street phenomena, ROA, had a showing at the Skalitzers in Berlin. Now the good people at that gallery have arranged a show (which opened last night “down under”) for him at the FORM Gallery in Perth entitled Paradox. Like with his participation in the Wide Open Walls project in Gambia, ROA worked in some easily recognizable local creatures that are unique due to Australia’s long geographic isolation. More photos after the jump…

Streets: ROA (Gambia)

On a recent trip to Africa to participate in the Wide Open Walls project, the Belgium-based ROA’s animal repertoire took a decidedly more exotic turn. Featuring giraffes, zebras, elephants, monkeys, other common safari sightings, the anatomically-inclined street artist contributed walls to the project that promotes Gambia as a tourist destination. Perhaps that’s why he held back on the usual dissection and other mishaps that typically accompanies the creatures in his imagery. More photos from Ekosystem after the jump…

Streets: Wynwood Walls Update (Miami)

It looks like Wynwood Walls is kicking off things early this year because just after RETNA hit up his wall in Miami, ROA, Gaia, Nunca, HOW & NOSM, the Date Farmers, Faile, and Bast rolled into town to do their thing. Undoubtedly, this year’s event will be just as looked forward to as last year’s edition, with a nice list of artists worked up already. We’ll be checking out these murals in person once Art Basel Week Miami rolls around. *Original set of photos removed […]

Streets: CityLeaks Summary – Faith47, DAL, ROA, Herakut, INTI

We’ve already shown you the walls that Blu and Ethos painted for the CityLeaks Festival in Germany, but it looks like it’s time for a summary of some of the rest of the participants. As we have become accustomed to, street artists Faith47 and DAL worked on murals with religious overtones and frenetic energy respectively. Belgium-based ROA brought his new skinned animal concepts from indoors to outdoors. Herakut painted one of their signature collaborative pieces for their home country with some of their pensive lettering. […]

Streets: Living Walls Atlanta – The City Speaks

International art festivals in Europe featuring street art and graffiti have been on the rise recently, from the the established set to get underway soon (NuArt – Norway & FAME – Italy) to the newer ones (Galore – Copenhagen, T&J Artwalk – Oslo, See No Evil – Bristol, Bloop Festival – Ibiza, Walk & Talk Festival – Azores, Draw The Line Festival – Campobasso). Meanwhile stateside, Atlanta decided not to let the other side of the Atlantic have all the fun as Living Walls kicked off their annual conference with a […]

Openings: ROA @ INOPERAbLe (Vienna)

ROA, famed street muralist with a predilection for painting animal dissections, recently landed (although he did manage to get in a pre-emptive strike) in Vienna for a solo show at the INOPERAbLE gallery. The Belgium painter produced a new body of work consisting of small drawings, paintings on found objects, and a large interactive wall piece. As he continues his anatomical explorations, ROA still finds way to try new things and keep things fresh – this time notably with pull down screens as well as […]
