Showing: Rosson Crow – “The Happiest People on Earth” @ Honor Fraser Gallery

Currently at Honor Fraser Gallery in Los Angeles, Rosson Crow has on display a series of new paintings in a show entitled The Happiest People on Earth. The new mixed-media works (acrylic, spray-paint, photo transfer, oil, and enamel on canvas) sees the locally-based artist step away from the surreal interiors she is known, moving in a new direction featuring “desert landscapes set in a future overwhelmed by the refuse of the paranoid present.” Created in the leadup to the 2016 presidential election and influenced by the post-apocalyptic mood […]

Showing: Rosson Crow – “Madame Psychosis Holds a Séance” @ Honor Fraser Gallery

Currently on display at Honor Fraser Gallery is Rosson Crow’s third solo with the Culver City showspace. Entitled Madame Psychosis Holds a Séance, the new paintings and a short film explores the fictional world of Madame Psychosis, an aging showgirl obsessed with the assassination of John F. Kennedy. The Los Angeles-based artist hopes to shed light on the psychology of national identity shaped around moments of historical significance with the new work and has chosen an event that certainly has been etched into the American cultural consciousness. Discuss Rosson Crow […]

Showing: Rosson Crow @ Musée Régional d’Art Contemporain Languedoc-Roussillon

The Regional Museum of Contemporary Art in Sérignan, France is currently showing the nostalgic abstractions of Rosson Crow (featured). Featuring 25 large-scale paintings (old and new) from the American artist, the comprehensive exhibition, her largest ever, gives attendees a good look at the psychedelic modern take on decadent interiors from the past that have become her signature imagery. If you happen to be in the area and are interested in seeing her “American version of Versailles, through its fabricated luxury,” the show is on through November 2nd. […]

Upcoming: Rosson Crow @ Musée Régional d’Art Contemporain Languedoc-Roussillon

Starting Saturday (June 28th) in France, in the heart of Languedoc-Roussillon in the town of Sérignan, the Regional Museum of Contemporary Art will be opening a show from Rosson Crow (featured). Showing through November 2nd, the exhibition will feature the young painter’s hallucinatory abstractions of decadent interior spaces, oftentimes embellished with elements more often seen in urban settings. This lends a modern twist to her work influenced by old world techniques, which leads to interesting juxtapositions. Discuss Rosson Crow here.

Upcoming: Rosson Crow – “RECONSTRUCTION” @ Galerie Nathalie Obadia

Opening on September 7th, RECONSTRUCTION will be Rosson Crow’s (featured) third showing with the Galerie Nathalie Obadia in Paris. Continuing to explore the style of work we saw last year in Los Angeles (covered), the oil paintings focus their attention on the often violent history of the southern United States, where she is originally from. Examples include her renderings of the homes of plantation owners, funeral scenes, and a church where young African-American girls were killed in a bomb attack by the KKK. Take a look at more preview images here. […]

Openings: Rosson Crow – “BALLYHOO HULLABALOO HABOOB” @ Honor Fraser

Over the weekend, the Honor Fraser Gallery hosted the opening for BALLYHOO HULLABALOO HABOOB, Rosson Crow’s (featured) second solo at the Los Angeles showspace. The new body of work marks a departure from her signature imagery of decadent interiors from the past rendered with colorful urban references (last seen in 2010 here and here), and sees the LA-based painter move her narrative towards a looser and more abstract look at scenes of American growth and decline, all with a more muted palette. More photos taken […]

Openings: Rosson Crow – “Myth of the American Motorcycle” @ CAC

Rosson Crow (featured) recently opened her exhibition at the Contemporary Arts Center, Cincinnati (CAC) to a excited Ohio crowd. The show entitled “Myth of the American Motorcycle” (previewed) centered around the classic highway icon and it’s effect on American culture. Rosson underwent an intense study of the biker lifestyle the year prior in anticipation for this show. It seems that it paid off as this series is a great match for “RoCrow’s” nostalgic abstraction on familiar settings that “never-was”. Check out this great show after […]

The exhibition, fueled by Rosson’s love for motorcycle lore, combines her expansive-retro style with the thematic choice of an American icon – a perfect match. The opening is on November 5th at 8 pm (open to the public), with an artist’s talk scheduled for the next day, November 6th at 2 pm. The exhibition […]
