Previews: Casey Gray – “Paper Trail” @ Legion

On July 8th, Casey Gray will be opening a small show of works on paper at Legion in San Francisco. The new experimental pieces from the locally-based artist are created with acrylic spray paint and precision masking techniques, a continuation of his explorations of still life. Paper Trail will include four medium-scale bulletin board paintings referencing his studio environment as well as some smaller fruit, vegetable, and landscape studies. Discuss this show here. Currently at the Legion of Honor, The Future of the Past: Mummies and Medicine is showing through August 2018 featuring RETNA’s (featured) distinct script in the background. The Los Angeles-based graffiti artist’s work has always been compared to and influenced in part by Egyptian hieroglyphs, so his career has come a full circle now with an invitation by the museum in San Francisco to paint the walls surrounding the exhibition. Earlier this month, a show featuring new charcoal and graphite drawings on paper by Joel Daniel Phillips opened up at San Francisco’s Hashimoto Contemporary. Belongings comprises  of mainly four large-scale portraits interesting paired with solitary objects (on similarly shaped paper) that serves as an extension of their characters. Previews: 123KLAN – “Style Is The Message” @ 1AM Gallery

Tomorrow night (April 21st) in San Francisco, the First Amendment Gallery (1AM SF) will be hosting a new solo show from 123KLAN (interviewed). Originally from France, this husband and wife duo are relocated to Montreal a while back where they have now prepared a new body of work entitled Style Is The Message for this exhibition. The fresh paintings are inspired by their experiences in the Bay Area and feature their signature fusion of graphic design and graffiti styles. Discuss 123KLAN here.

Recap: Joan Cornellà – “A Solo Show” @ Spoke-Art

San Francisco’s Spoke Art Gallery is currently running the last couple days of a solo show by Joan Cornellà. For his US debut, the Barcelona-based artist produced several original acrylics on canvas as well as a series of fine art giclee prints of his popular comics.
