Preview: APAK – “Rainbow Garden” @ Tinlark Gallery

Oregonian artists APAK are at it again, this time getting ready for their show “Rainbow Garden” @ Tinlark Gallery. As you can see above, the multi-talented duo is preparing some sculptures of the curious little beings that always populate their work. These sculptures along with paintings will make up the body of work for this show along with some felted wool dolls. Check the preview images after the jump.

An artist we recently fell in love with at the Culver City Artwalk, Thomas Doyle, was commissioned by the New York Times Magazine to create a sculpture for their “Infrastructure” issue. Just as sculptor Jin Young Yu (interviewed), Wang Zhi Jie and Ayako Rokkaku caught our eye at Art Basel Miami last year, the recent Art Hong Kong fair introduced us to the stunning porcelain dress of Beijing artist Li Xiaofeng. Xiaofeng creates clothing from porcelain fragments from the Ming, Qing and Song dynasties and even more amazing are that they are wearable. Take a closer look after the jump…

Billed as the largest collection of Damien Hirst’s work ever exhibited, the show “Requiem” opened at Pinchuk Art Centre last Saturday, April 25th in Kiev, Ukraine. Jeff Koons/LACMA Train x Crane Project

When news came out about the $25 million sculpture that LACMA commissioned Jeff Koons to do, we were a little underwhelmed by the idea. A life-size replica of a locomotive dangling from a crane sounded impressive enough but what does it all mean? After watching the Koons studio visit video last week, we realized that the train was going to be motorized (check the 1:04 mark) which makes it a little more interesting but we’re not sure if it’s the best use of $25 million.
