Openings: Takashi Murakami & Virgil Abloh – ‘Future History’ @ Gagosian (London)

Coinciding with London Fashion Week 2018, Superflat master Japanese artist Takashi Murakami continued his collaboration (covered) with American creative designer Virgil Abloh and presented a series of joint works entitled Future History at the Gagosian Gallery in London. The exhibition runs until April 7th and features large-scale paintings, sculptures and an installation drawing references to Abloh’s signature Off-White motifs alongside Murakami’s iconic cast of anime characters, reflecting incisively on the signs of the current times. This past weekend, from the 8th until the 11th February, the 19th edition of Art Rotterdam took place in the historical Van Nelle factory in the industrial area of one of the Europe’s major port cities. Yoskay Yamamoto // Facebook Artist In Residence Program

Recently, Yoskay Yamamoto (interviewed) became the latest to go through the FB AIR Program. The artist-in-residence initiative saw the Los Angeles-based artist set up one of his signature clustered installations in one of Facebook’s new offices on the Palo Alto campus. Featuring a series of patterned paintings inspired by the LA sky, sculptural pieces, and hanging elements, Cali Sunset was a welcome addition to the creative work environment. On view thru this Saturday at Hosfelt Gallery in San Francisco is Illuminated Opposition, a new solo exhibition from Andrew Schoultz. The transformative showing from the Los Angeles-based artist continues his socio-political commentary with a series of paintings set among an immersive installation of wall murals and sculptural pieces. The National Gallery of Victoria recently commissioned Ron Mueck to create an installation for their permanent collection, his most ambitious project to date. Entitled Mass, the work which debuted at the inaugural NGV Triennial, features 100 fibreglass and resin skulls, each one measuring about a meter high. Releases: Pejac – “Desprestigio”

Pejac recently announced his first ever sculptural edition based on a piece that was exhibited earlier this year at his A Forest show in Venice (covered). For this release, the Spanish artist created a complex production process that involved different techniques and mediums, challenging both himself personally and the idea of an editioned art piece. Last weekend, Shepard Fairey (featured) graced his hometown with an expansive exhibition at a converted Chinatown warehouse (1650 Naud Street), his first showing in Los Angeles in nearly 10 years. Presented by Library Street Collective, Damaged featured over 200 artworks created since 2015 ranging in technique and medium.
