Studio Visits: Brendan Monroe – “Morphology” @ Heath Ceramics (San Francisco)

Last week, AM had the opportunity to visit Heath Ceramics in San Francisco where Brendan Monroe (interviewed) was hard at work in the upstairs workshop on an upcoming show. Opening September 25th in the ceramics studio and store’s Bay Area Boiler Room, Morphology will reveal months of work the Oakland-based artist has put in testing his limits with larger pieces, carefully choosing glazes, and bringing to life (in three dimensions) concepts and elements of his visual language. Releases: Cleon Peterson Sculptural Editions

In association with his upcoming show in Detroit, Cleon Peterson has released a series of sculptural editions for fans who want to see his brutal imagery taken to the third dimension. The three offered sculpts come in an edition of ten in three different colorways (black, white, and gold), mirroring the palette of the provocative artist’s paintings. First Look: Banksy – “Dismaland” @ Tropicana (Weston Super Mare – UK)

Banksy phenomenon once again showed it’s strength, influence and unpredictable nature when his largest project to date, Dismaland, opened doors for the press preview earlier today. Upcoming: Daniel Arsham – “Fictional Archeology” @ Galerie Perrotin (Hong Kong)

After installing a whimsical new installation in Washington DC with his Snarkitechture firm, Daniel Arsham has turned his attention to a more solo pursuit. Fictional Archeology sees the New York-based artist bring his signature technique of creating everyday objects as how they would appear if found by archeologists in the future to the Hong Kong branch of Galerie Perrotin on September 11th. Showing: Revok – “Revok” @ Ruttkowski;68

With his most recent solo show titled Revok, Jason Williams aka REVOK introduced his latest concepts and works at Ruttkowski;68 in Cologne, Germany. Opened on August 14th, the show will stay on view until September 27th. The title of the shows refers to the concept of identity that he has been exploring since 1990, when he adopted the name as his alias. REVOK was only a tag or a pseudonym when he started out as a graffiti artist, but later on it became a frame within which he can define himself without social constraints. […]

Upcoming: Brendan Monroe – “Morphology” @ Heath Ceramics (San Francisco)

After a fantastic showing at Heath Ceramics in Los Angeles last year (covered), Brendan Monroe (interviewed) will be next putting new works on display soon at their San Francisco location. Morphology in the Boiler Room will continue the locally-based artist’s collaboration with the manufacturer of artisan pottery, a perfect way for Monroe to bring to life in a new way his organic and science-based imagery. Openings: FAILE – “Savage/Sacred Young Minds” @ Brooklyn Museum

Last month, the Brooklyn Museum welcomed in the locally based duo Faile (featured) for a solo show entitled Savage/Sacred Young Minds. The exhibition showed off a wide range of works from the Patrick’s including their  Temple project that first made its appearance for PortugalArte ‘10, prayer wheels, large scale paintings, and more pieces all influenced by “a wide variety of sources, including American quilts, folk and Native American art, religious architecture, pulp magazines, comic books, sci-fi movie posters, adult entertainment advertisements, and storefront typography.” Included was also a revival of the Deluxx Fluxx Arcade (more on this […]
