On the 29th of June, Jan Kalab (featured) opened his ninth solo show at the Villa Pelle in Prague, showing pieces created exclusively for this event. After introducing his art at fairs worldwide, this was an opportunity to put his work on display in his homeland. The Czech artist uses a lot of geometry elements and pure, bright colors in creating his pieces, which often blur the distinction between art and design. Moving back to the center of the city at the venue Markthalle, their 11th year at Basel Week Switzerland sees the art fair continuing to focus on mainly solo exhibitions from artists at their gallery booths like Mark Stone for The Hole Gallery (seen above). With the art world focused in on the festivities in Switzerland, we start our coverage of Art Basel Week with a feature on SCOPE. Celebrating nine years in Basel, the fair returns to its pioneering location at Basel’s New Art District on the Rhine. Legendary Berlin-based artist, Thierry Noir, is currently in London, setting up his upcoming show Jazz with Howard Griffin Gallery. As one of the collateral shows of the Venice Bienalle 2015, Personal Structures / Crossing Borders, organized by the European Cultural Centre, opened at two locations in Venice on the 9th of May. Hosted at Palazzo Bembo and Palazzo Mora, over 100 artworks created by 100 participating artists from around 50 different countries was presented to the general public. Releases: Tomoo Gokita x Case Studyo – “A Bathing Beauty” Sculpture

Taking a painting from his show at Mary Boone Gallery last year (covered), Tomoo Gokita has brought the faceless beauty he created to life with the help of Case Studyo. Entitled A Bathing Beauty like the painting, the new bronze sculpture will be released tomorrow through their website in two colorways – white & black.
