Streets: Cyrcle. (Los Angeles)

Last week, the artist collective known as Cyrcle. (featured) painted a mural in the midst of Culver City, California. Keeping the same theme of We Never Die, which was highlighted during their solo show a couple months ago, the group showed that they can smoothly move from the gallery space to the streets and back. The entire mural was a week long process but the results were of interest to anyone who drove by the building complex. The mural project spearheaded by Branded Arts which […]

Streets: Blu (Greece)

As Greece moves towards an inevitable default, likely pulling the rest of the world into a double-dip recession, Blu lands in town to give his special commentary on the subject. There seems no end to his Euro road trip as he has made his way to and from countries and cities like Italy, Bologna, Palestra, Jesi, Krakow, Poznań, Fabriano, Cologne, Grottaglie, Valencia, Italy, and Spain again. Now, he hits another home run with this poignant new mural that proves once again a painting is worth a thousand […]

Nuart Festival ’11: Phlegm

Another great curatorial choice for Nuart Festival is rising star Phlegm, who traveled from his home base of Sheffield for this year’s event. For his part, he painted a nice mural on the side of a derelict building featuring his signature affection for all things airborne and also filled an entire room with his creatures and characters in a strange, almost evolutionary, lineup. More photos after the jump thanks to Henrik Haven…

Streets: Olek – Astor Place Cube (New York)

Agata Oleksiak aka Olek, who recently held a solo show in New York, took her guerrilla crocheting into the public domain several days ago in support of the Occupy Wall Street protests. Putting her knitting skills on overdrive, she covered the Alamo sculpture in NY, also known as the Astor Place Cube, with a colorful patchwork of yarn with embedded messages. This will not be her first high profile public intervention, if you remember, as she burst onto the scene last year by taking on […]

Nuart Festival ’11: Herakut

With the Nuart Festival in full swing in Norway, the next artists to grace the walls of Stavenger are German duo Herakut. The creative blend of Hera’s loose and more abstract elements with Akut’s photorealistic skills is a special aesthetic that can’t be duplicated. They took time to work on a large wall (with the assistance of a mechanical crane) as well as an immersive installation that took over an entire room. More photos after the jump from Henrik Haven.

Streets: Aakash Nihalani (India)

New York-based Aakash Nihalani, who has pushed his tape constructs in the streets to the next level with his recent gallery work, still continues to roam the alleyways, decrepit buildings, and decaying walls to get his message across. These new vibrant works he sent us, featuring his signature geometric tape installations, were placed in India, where he was in town for his exhibition Aalign at Seven Art Limited in Delhi. More photos after the jump…

Streets: Wynwood Walls Update (Miami)

It looks like Wynwood Walls is kicking off things early this year because just after RETNA hit up his wall in Miami, ROA, Gaia, Nunca, HOW & NOSM, the Date Farmers, Faile, and Bast rolled into town to do their thing. Undoubtedly, this year’s event will be just as looked forward to as last year’s edition, with a nice list of artists worked up already. We’ll be checking out these murals in person once Art Basel Week Miami rolls around. *Original set of photos removed […]

Streets: Blu @ Tudela Avant-Garde Urbano Festival (Spain)

The man never stops. And for that, we are grateful. After a quick stop in Valencia, Blu has since journeyed north into the heart of Spain to partake in Avant-Garde Urbano in the cozy town of Tudela de Navarra. With signature iconography and social commentary, the ubiquitous Italian artist kicks things off at this inaugural street art event, the likes of which have sprung up at an unprecedented rate throughout Europe as a tool to attract tourists and bring money into the community. The festival […]

Interview / Videos: Mark Jenkins for Beck’s Green Box Project

Washington DC-based artist Mark Jenkins, whose work we enjoyed back in March at the VOLTA fair during Armory Week, recently got involved with the Beck’s Green Box Project, an interesting application of new technology in the streets. The ambitious undertaking, which plans to showcase 1,000 projects by individuals over the next three years, utilizes the Beck’s Key App (also with Android support), which allows people to overlay their mobile devices / tablet computers over “green box” locations and see an augmented reality like 3D or […]

Streets: TrustoCorp – “Drive Through Liposuction” (Brooklyn)

This summer saw TrustoCorp truly spread their satirical wings with smart and assertive street interventions on both coasts, critiquing the ugliness of pop culture with signature wry wit and multiple campaigns in Los Angeles and New York. In perhaps their most humorous, most direct, and most popular intervention to date, a series of faux trash mags were planted at news stands in and around airports in LA and NYC. Now, as fall is about to set in, the Brooklyn-based collective once again targets vanity and […]
