Streets: Phlegm @ Boombarstick festival, Croatia

British artist and illustrator Phlegm recently visited Croatia. He worked on a new mural in the medieval town of Vodnjan, on occasion of the Boombarstick festival, alongside other street artists from all over Europe. The artist was painting a lovely front wall of a former church, which later became a cinema, and created an interesting architectural piece for it. He created a multi-dimensional tower/staircase, that nicely incorporates the existing elements on the wall he was working on, while blending it with its surroundings. While he used […]

Streets: Revok x POSE on Bowery & Houston (Part II)

In part one of our behind the scenes coverage on the creative process of the new mural, we showed you the relentless work ethic of both Revok and POSE. It was interesting to see the first time two artists with different approaches were tasked with creating a work of art on display for the people of New York at the historic Bowery & Houston wall. Taking over six days, this piece was finally completed and it turned out wonderful as the text concept and end product reflected […]

Streets: Escif (Denmark)

After bringing you photos of the work Brad Downey and Sam3 put in for the Public Art project (co-curated by Henrik Haven) in Horsens, Denmark, we now want to share with you what Escif painted for the event. The Spanish muralist created three pieces – How to survive Horsens (the large wall seen above with characters practicing self-defense, a nod to the town’s bad reputation which is slowly improving with its strong focus on art & culture), Baruck Pizza (a clever piece that mimics the pizza restaurant right next […]

Streets: How & Nosm – “I Just Called To Say” @ DKNY Artworks

Amongst ten artists around the world that got commissioned to present their vision for DKNY Artworks, the New York based How & Nosm took on the daunting task of working on the fashion giant’s home court. Entitled I Just Called To Say, the piece the brothers created helped highlight the iconic DKNY logo on a series of billboards on the corner of 48th Street & 7th Ave. It seems like How & Nosm are hitting their stride since creating an impressive mural at the iconic Bowery & […]

Streets: El Mac (Los Angeles)

After returning from Denmark where he worked on several murals and a solo exhibition, El Mac recently took time to paint a wall in Little Armenia. Arranged for by FX, the new piece will help promote their series, The Bridge, for several months before reverting to another beautiful addition to the urban landscape in Los Angeles. Take a look at more shots we took for you to enjoy below… Discuss El Mac here.

Streets: Revok x POSE on Bowery & Houston (Part I)

AM took some time to catch up with artists Revok and POSE (pictured above) as they were next to tackle that monster wall on the corner of Bowery & Houston. Following in the footsteps of many notable artists such as RETNA, Kenny Scharf, Barry McGee, Shepard Fairey, AIKO, Os Gemeos, JR, Keith Haring, CRASH and Faile, the two members of the MSK crew accepted this hefty project at the historic mural location, but took a little bit of a different approach. Over the course of six days, the […]

Streets: Rostarr for Absolut Open Canvas (New York)

Rostarr (featured) was recently invited to participate in the Open Canvas intiative put on by Absolut in Brooklyn. The New York-based artist, who only recently exhibited at the local branch of the Opera Gallery (covered), joined twenty other participants as they transformed North 6th street in Williamsburg through the project. The next phase will take place in San Francisco later this summer, but for now, check out more photos of Romon and his calligraphy in action. Photo credit: Richard Maitland. Discuss Rostarr here.

Streets: RIME (New York)

It’s been a while since we featured an in-depth look (see 2012) at one of RIME’s street pieces here on AM. It’s not for lack of material as the prolific artist otherwise known as Jersey Joe travels constantly putting up work around the world. This newest piece in New York featuring his signature mix of letters and gritty cartoonish characters was painted in the shadow of the Manhattan Bridge. Also, check out an associated video and interview with RIME by the Village Voice where he covers […]

Streets: Brad Downey (Denmark)

After sharing some photos of Sam3’s pieces for the Public Art project in Horsens, Denmark, we now have some shots of another participant, Brad Downey. As opposed to the typical street artist, Downey’s work is more conceptual in nature and often takes advantage of existing urban elements that he exploits in which he sees natural irony or subtle metaphors. Take a look at the American artist working in the photos below, as well some of the completed interventions (three at the port and three in the center of town). Photo […]

Streets: Shepard Fairey (Vienna)

Besides a new mural utilizing a novel approach from Faile, the streets of Vienna also saw the Cash, Cans, & Candy group show bring in Shepard Fairey. Along with a major piece created on the side of a building, his imagery could also be seen popping up all through the Austrian capital. Take a look at more photos below… Photo credit: famiglia_vienna. Discuss Shepard Fairey here.
