One of the shows we have been looking forward to this year is opening this Saturday, December 12th at Thinkspace Gallery in Culver City. Galimatias will be the first US show for Polish artists Sainer & Bezt, better known as Etam Cru. Tonight at the 297 Tenth Avenue location of Paul Kasmin Gallery in New York, Erik Parker’s exhibition entitled Undertow will be open its doors to the public. For his third solo with the Chelsea showspace, the locally based artist has prepared works rendered with a highly saturated palette that continue to explore the world’s current political, social, and economic landscapes. As you can see from the preview images below, he will also be introducing some shaped canvases that add an extra narrative to his imagery.

Another strong satellite fair seen during this year’s Basel Week Miami was certainly Untitled. Showing a diverse selection of contemporary works, the roster included 119 international galleries, not-for-profit exhibition spaces and institutions from over 20 countries. Once again, the Wynwood Arts District became the capital of the street art world during Basel Week Miami. With artists from around the globe painting on every corner of this lively neighborhood and related events happening at local bars, clubs, galleries and parks, one of the main events was surely going down at Wynwood Walls. As we continue our look at the prolific street activity centered around the Wynwood District during Basel Week Miami, the next mural that caught our eyes is the collaborative effort between Li-Hill (interviewed) and James Bullough. Taking advantage of how well Li-Hill’s kinetic imagery and Bullough’s glitch-like style mesh together, its creation was timed to coincide with the COP21 Paris Climate Conference. On the 10th of December, BC Gallery in Berlin will be opening a solo show by Czech artist Jan Kalab (interviewed). Tension will include a new series of his recognizable round canvases as well as a large sculpture following along the lines of his circle inspired works. CONTEXT Art Miami was another popular satellite fair for this year’s Basel Week Miami. Paired up with Art Miami, these two events gathered huge crowds over the course of several days. From a wide selection of works presented by over 80 participating galleries, we’re bringing you some of our personal highlights that include everything from AJ Fosik’s masterful wooden sculptures, to the Miaz Brother’s huge canvases, to new sculptural works by Mark Jenkins, to Mars-1 bronzes, to a captivating David Kassan portrait piece and many more. Recap: Usugrow @ Woolloomooloo Xhibit

After a solo last month in Japan (covered), Usugrow followed it up by opening an exhibition in Taipei while there for POW! WOW! Taiwan. The showing presented by Remix ＆ G-SHOCK at the Woolloomooloo Xhibit space featured the Japanese artist’s characteristic mix of urban calligraphy & Los Angeles “cholo” subculture.
