Baby Tattooville ’15: Secret Store

Always one of the things attendees look forward to, Baby Tattooville’s Secret Store opened last night at 9pm sharp. Streets: DEIH / Wall Poetry (Reykjavic)

Last week, Urban Nation curated an event in Reykjavic in association with the Iceland Airwaves Music Festival where participants were paired with an audio artist who provided the visual artist with a song, a title, a poem, a quote or a book that greatly influenced their work. Tonight at the Riverside Art Museum, Fade To Black opened its door to the public after a private dinner reception on the roof of the museum. Previews: Adam Neate – “Dimensionalist Painter” @ Elms Lester

In what has become an annual tradition, Elms Lester in London will be showing new work from Adam Neate (interviewed) starting later today (October 2). As indicated from the title of the solo exhibition, Dimensionalist Painter, the British artist has been known for his unique three dimensional sculptural painting technique that results in works that engage viewers on multiple levels. The 25 new works feature familiar subjects such as portraiture and self-portraiture, but also experiments with new themes. Discuss Adam Neate here.

Previews: Casey Weldon – “Hastemaker” @ Roq La Rue

Tonight (October 1st) in Seattle, Casey Weldon (featured) will be presenting some new works at Roq La Rue collectively entitled Hastemaker. The surreal new paintings are rendered with a bright hyperchromatic palette, something the locally-based artist is known for, giving them almost a supernatural glow. This choice of illumination matches well with his cinematic narrative, giving the pieces an almost mystical quality. Discuss Casey Weldon here.

Streets: DALeast / No Limit Borås (Sweden)

After a successful first event in 2014 (covered), the public arts program No Limit Borås in Sweden is back this year with a stellar list of artist. Chinese artist DALeast (interviewed) was one of the people invited to paint in the city of Borås, an opportunity he took to paint one of his expansive bird murals. Created with his signature kinetic brushstrokes, the piece was painted expertly over multiple separated walls on the same building leading to a unique effect when viewed from different angles. On October 2nd, Andenken Gallery in Amsterdam will be showing Terrain, a solo show by Evan Hecox. With this new body of work, the Denver-based artist is experimenting with more abstract forms and imagery as well as different mediums including acrylic paint, ink, gouache, collage to watercolor or colored pencil. The pieces are loosely based on the flags, so the artist is referring to them as such with titles like Community Flag or Desert Flag.
