After taking part in this year’s POW! WOW! Hawaii with a large scale mural (covered), the Cyrcle. crew are now back in their studio finishing up works for their upcoming solo show in London. On the 7th of March, StolenSpace gallery in London will be opening Overthrone! Pooring Reign, showing the duo’s new works that explore their familiar ideas and concepts continuing their efforts to question the extent of power and control over our minds. The LA-based artists are doing so by playing with and reinventing symbols in order to create […]

POW! WOW! ’14 / Streets: Andrew Schoultz & Hannah Stouffer

Another collaboration that grabbed our attention during this year’s POW! WOW! Hawaii was a long joint mural from Andrew Schoultz and Hannah Stouffer. The waves and kinetic imagery from Schoultz provided a nice contrast to the softer forest renderings and volcanic eruptions of Stouffer, providing an interesting continous landscape for the people who pass by in the industrial district of Kaka’ako. Take a look at some closer shots as well as in-progress pics below… Photos credit: saL. Discuss POW WOW here. Discuss Andrew Schoultz here.

Previews: JR x NYCB Theatrical Performance

After creating the NYCB’s 2014 Art Series installation (covered), JR is taking the collaboration with New York City Ballet to a new level as a theatrical director. The versatile French artist came up with the idea of creating something on the stage of NYCB while working on his art installation, and the result of that idea is an eight-minute pièce d’occasion, conceived and directed by him. The work will include more than 40 NYCB dancers and guest artist Lil Buck, performing to an original score composed for the New York City Ballet Orchestra […]

After showing her work at big art fairs in Singapore, New Delhi and Bruxelles, Katrin Fridriks (featured), is currently presenting her newest paintings at the ART 14 Fair in London. Last year, she had a successful solo show at ART13 (covered), so this year she is coming back with a joint showing together with Clemens Behr, both represented by Circle Culture Gallery. For this event, she prepared many new works as well as new concepts that will be premiered exclusively at this fair. Probably the most […]

Openings: Scott Campbell – “The Smartest Thing I Ever Did Were Foolish Things For Love” @ Galerie Gmurzynska

Scott Campbell’s second showing with Galerie Gmurzynska’s St. Moritz (Via Serias) location recently opened, giving his fans in Switzerland a chance to admire a diverse range of works. The Smartest Thing I Ever Did Were Foolish Things For Love is dedicated to the theme of love, no doubt inspired by his recent marriage. Paintings, sculptures, cut currency works, as well as “fuse paintings,” which are created by drawing with gunpowder and then ignited, fill the space with examples of the Brooklyn-based artist’s recent creative output and “love statements.” […]

Openings: Greg Eason – “Four Fish of the Apocalypse” @ Breeze Block Gallery

Earlier this month, the Breeze Block Gallery welcomed in several artists to display their works at the Portland showspace. One of these was the London-based Greg Eason, who made the trip over personally to present his detailed graphite drawings. The series of works were collectively entitled Four Fish of the Apocalypse, and use carefully selected images to illustrate his version of some of the Book of Revelation (Chapter 6 of the King James Bible). Take a look at more photos below… Discuss this show here. Discuss Greg Eason here.

Showing: Dale vN Marshall – “Walls With Wounds” @ Herbert Art Gallery & Museum

On Saturday, the 15th of February, Herbert Art Gallery & Museum in Coventry, opened a solo show entitled Walls With Wounds by Dale vN Marshall. This is a landmark exhibition for the Wales-based contemporary fine artist that was formerly known as the graffiti artist Vermin on the streets of his hometown of Bath and Bristol. The works for this exhibition are inspired by the crumbling walls of his former Victorian studio, as well as his time in one of Britain’s oldest asylums, and also contain elements of his graffiti background. This complexity of influences […]

Previews: Alexis Diaz & Jaz – “Linea” @ Rex Romae

Rex Romae, a brand new urban contemporary art gallery project in London, is kicking off with an exclusive, week long pop-up show. Linea will be a joint exhibition featuring new works by Alexis Diaz and Franco Fassoli (aka Jaz). Jaz is an Argentinian artist whose street work can be found all over the world. Consisting of figurative imagery created with different mediums such as tar, petrol, or lime, the rough feeling murals are inspired by elements of his home country’s culture. For this new body of work, Jaz combines […]

POW! WOW! ’14 / Streets: Tristan Eaton

Tristan Eaton’s Escape The Night mural for POW! WOW! Hawaii was one of the biggest ones at this year’s edition of the festival. Getting a flat, clear, three story high and wide wall was perfect for the Los Angeles-based artist to show his skills and signature style. Creating another collage like mural, completely executed with spray paint, didn’t only show Eaton’s talent for visual art, but also his incredible skills and control of spray paint as medium. The entire image was made up of various images that included clean, corporate […]
