Studio Visit: Melissa Haslam – “Floating Garden” @ LeBasse Projects

Returning to the botanical imagery that she has worked on in the past, painter Melissa Haslam (featured) will be opening a show at LeBasse Projects on March 2nd. Entitled Floating Garden, the new body of work will highlight how the Melbourne-based artist has furthered refined her form of portraiture. Last week, New York artist Rostarr (featured) unveiled his latest body of work in Mexico City at Anonymous Gallery. This inspiring series of paintings entitled Turbo Arena draws from his hypnotic signature style that is a smooth mash-up of iconography, graphics & calligraphy. Back in November, we shared with you a longstanding project that street muralists Herakut have been working on called The Giant Storybook Project. Popular graphic designer and illustrator Olly Moss was recently commissioned (with the help of Gallery 1988) for arguably one of his most high profile projects to date – the official 85th Annual Oscars Poster. Last week, AM decided stroll by 111 Minna Gallery to check out David Choong Lee’s latest effort, Organic Updates (previewed), which features a series of large clusters consisting of wood panels of painting, graffiti and collage, that are arranged to give the work a massive organic feel. I forgot to ask if purchase comes with a diagram for installation (maybe David is willing to consult via Skype). Italian artist Marco Mazzoni is currently preparing a solo show with Galleria Patricia Armocida in Milan, Italy, opening on the 19th of February 2013. With fifteen new medium-scale colored pencil paper drawings, twelve Moleskin paper drawings, and a site-specific installation, his 1st solo show in the city he lives and works in, will be one of his biggest to date. Last week, Fecal Face Dot Gallery (FFDG) hosted the opening of Jay Howell’s solo show Enthusiastic Person(previewed). On Howell’s resume is the character designer of Bob’s Burgers and co-creator & art director of the upcoming show, Sanjay and Craig.
