Preview: Patrick Martinez – “Lovely Day” @ Known Gallery

This Saturday (June 16th), Known Gallery will play host to Patrick Martinez’s latest show Lovely Day. In his second solo exhibition with the LA space (see the first one here), Patrick will bring another dose of his crisp neon works. Teaser: Laurie Lipton – “L.A. Sous-Real” @ Ace Gallery (Los Angeles)

Coming up next month, Laurie Lipton (interviewed) will be opening her latest solo L.A. Sous-Real at the Ace Gallery in Los Angeles. Featuring her amazing skills with graphite and charcoal, the gifted artist will be putting on display a series of work featuring her signature surreal and hyper-detailed imagery, often executed with witty and biting commentary (LA is ripe for the taking don’t you think?). Last month, Prune Nourry premiered her solo exhibition Holy River at The Invisible Dog Art Center in Brooklyn. The packed opening night showcased the talents of Ms. Nourry with her unique style of mixing traditional mediums such as photography, sculpture, and installation in addition to her creative use of video (seen here) and performance art. Recently, the Merry Karnowsky gallery presented new artwork by Edward Walton Wilcox. Titled Though You Slay Me, the show featured a number of oil paintings which focused on Wilcox’s use of the chiaroscuro effect to create a series of gloomy portraits and environments. Streets: Escif for Memorie Urbane (Italy)

Spanish street artist Escif was recently invited to Gaeta, Italy for the Memorie Urbane Festival where painted a mural entitled Angolo Di Riflessione or Angle of Reflection. The image may look familiar because just up the coast at Isola del Giglio in Tuscany, the Costa Concordia partially sank taking the lives of 32 passengers and crew, an incident which was tainted by the controversial actions of the captain. Tomorrow, June 9th (from 1-4 PM), Luke Chueh (interviewed) will be at the Gallery 1988 (Melrose location) signing his new book Bearing The Unbearable.
