Tomorrow night (April 20th) in Brooklyn, Lydia Fong, Todd James, Steve Powers, and Alicia McCarthy will be putting on a show at Muddguts. For those in the know, as well as from the artwork used to promote the exhibition, it looks like Fong (aka Barry McGee) will be joining his Street Market buddies James and Powers and has invited his Mission School art movement colleague McCarthy to the party as well. Earlier this month in Belgium, the third iteration of the The Crystal Ship art festival (also see 2016 & 2017) welcomed in an international roster of artists to create murals and art installations in the coastal city of Ostend. One of the standout walls comes from Sainer (featured) of the Etam Cru entitled Podkarpacie, a painterly piece which appears to be named after a province in Poland. Avery Singer’s Days of the Week (Computer Pain) is showing through the end of this week at the 439 W. 127th Street location of Gavin Brown’s Enterprise in New York. Choosing a spoken word song Stretching it Wider from John Giorno as the backdrop for this new body of work, the locally-based artist has created seven large canvases for each day of the week to headline the exhibition. Basel Week HK’18 / Openings: James Jarvis – “The Waste Man” @ Aishonanzuka Gallery

On display through April 28th in Hong Kong at Aishonanzuka Gallery, The Waste Man is the latest exhibition from James Jarvis (interviewed). Known for his commercial work as a designer as well as a fine artist, his comics-style imagery (often humorous) is influenced by “philosophy, alternate realities, minimalism and skateboarding.” The show mainly consists of drawings of his signature character, something the British works on quite frequently, as well as a few larger gestural pieces on canvas. Coming up on April 26th, Antler Gallery in Portland will be opening a new show featuring the paintings of Lisa Ericson (seen above) and Lindsey Carr (seen below) both of whom have taking their work in a direction we find interesting. On Saturday night (April 21st) in Rome, Marion Peck will be unveiling her newest body of work entitled StraVolti at Dorothy Circus. Influenced by Picasso and Cubism, the Pacific Northwest-based artist has created a new series of surreal portraits that redefines the definition of beauty. Currently in the gallery’s London location, Peck also has a show on view featuring some of her older works and drawings. Showing: Edoardo Tresoldi – “Etherea” @ Coachella Festival

Over the weekend, the first set of visitors to the annual Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival were treated to a majestic new installation from Edoardo Tresoldi. Entitled Etherea, the site specific piece for the event’s Arts Section is a continuation of the Italian artist’s work with wire sculptures, although this one is certainly his biggest artwork to date. The three transparent sculptures are inspired by Neoclassical and Baroque architecture, measuring 36, 54, and 72 feet in height. Discuss Edoardo Tresoldi here.
