Several weeks ago in New York, the impressive new paintings that we saw in-studio from Brian Viveros were finally displayed on the walls of the Last Rites Gallery. Entitled Returning Art To The Unclean, the new work all featured his portraiture of smoking hot femme fatales, posed and ready to do battle. For this show, many his “troops” sported tattoos, certainly appropriate for the setting, and as usual, Brian provided the appropriate head gear for them. Last week, Post No Bills held their third exhibition thus far entitled Reality Bites. The show centered around the work of various artists including Borf, Brett Amory, Sage Vaughn, Kelsey Brookes, Mark Jenkins, Morley, and Ravi Zupa who supplied new limited edition prints as well as hand finished multiples. Tomorrow night, September 23rd, marks the opening of the Sink or Swim benefit show for PangeaSeed, a grassroots organization based in Japan dedicated to educating and raising international awareness on the plight of sharks and the destruction of their habitat. This weekend, the Giant Robot 2 gallery in West LA will be hosting a benefit show featuring some artists that we have covered before here on AM like Edwin Ushiro whose piece you see above. Preview: Kukula – “Lonely Opulent Things” @ Corey Helford Gallery

This Saturday night, Kukula returns for her second solo show at the Corey Helford Gallery after a sold-out affair in 2009. Entitled Lonely Opulent Things, this new body of work consists of 12 paintings, including her largest works to date. Currently showing at Lehmann Maupin is Home Within Home, the latest exhibition by Korean artist Do Ho Suh. The show is centered around two amazing sculptural installations that each deal with the artist’s feelings of cultural displacement stemming from the time when he moved from Korea to the United States to study art. Openings: Greg Lamarche – “I Can See For Miles” @ Known Gallery

Last weekend, in addition to Haze’s work, the Known Gallery also featured the work of another New York-based artist – Greg Lamarche (interviewed). Entitled I Can See For Miles, the exhibition included eleven pieces in total highlighting the artist’s signature lettering and collage-like design. Also tying his graffiti roots to the gallery space, he painted one of the walls with black lettering that certainly helped remind the visitor where he came from. More photos after the jump…

Over the weekend, Subliminal Projects brought in a power trio of graffiti legends in their show titled Three Kings. Featuring the work of Fab 5 Freddy, Futura 2000 and Lee Quinones, the show brought in writers who each have a different and unique style. Having these personalities under one space brought in fans of the artwork as well as those who wanted to finally meet the street luminaries. Showing: FriendsWithYou – “In The Beginning” @ colette (Paris)

Still showing through the rest of the week until the 24th is the FriendsWithYou exhibition in Paris. In The Beginning at colette features the Miami design collective’s bronze sculptures, series of prints including two exclusive to the store, an animation video piece, wall murals, as well as a plethora of art products. FWY also designed the storefront and the “water bar” space of the gallery, all based on the theme of expressing the inner-child inside all of us. More photos after the jump…
