Last Saturday night in Culver City, Scott Radke (interviewed) creatures ran wild at the Thinkspace Gallery. Owls, a cobra, flowers, and other unidentified and strange characters from the Ohio-based sculptor took over the space with their unsettling realistic yet beautiful faces, many of which also featured incorporated burlap for texture. Brooklyn Museum Cancels Scheduled “Art in the Streets” Exhibition

Preview: Sea No Evil 2011

Time flies!  The annual Sea No Evil benefit auction ($10 donation required at the door) is fast approaching – in fact, it’s this Saturday, June 25th. Since her series of shows in Australia at the end of 2010, Audrey Kawasaki (interviewed) has been hard at work getting ready for her next show. Openings: “Assorted Flavor” @ Known Gallery

This past Saturday, the Known Gallery and gallery director Casey Zoltan, presented an exhibition titled Assorted Flavor which featured the eclectic work of seven different artists. The lineup included the likes of Kevin Ancell, Jason Jägel, Saber, Patrick Martinez, Greg Lamarche, Push and Augustine Kofie. Displayed across a wide open space perfectly suitable for this kind of exhibit, the artwork showed an interesting mix of graffiti-style art, mixed media work, and even some traditional painting. Australian artist Meggs, who we recently connected with at this year’s POW WOW event (covered), is bringing a whole new body of work to Red Bull Studio on June 23rd, this Thursday night. A young artist we have had our eye on for some time, Frank Gonzales, is getting ready for a solo in Santa Fe, New Mexico at Beals & Abbate Fine Art. The New York-based artist is currently working on the new body of work in preparation for the September including the piece seen above. Last month, AM stopped by the solo from Tim Hon Hung Lee at Gallery Nine 5 in New York to check out his new body of work entitled You were born with a light between your eyes, I was born to answer your sun. Utilizing Chinese ink on rice paper, the London-based artist paints complex and rich pieces that draw from the stories of his family and ancestors while also mixing in elements of his Western upbringing.
