Teaser: KAWS – “Passing Through” @ Harbour City (Hong Kong)

It looks like Kaws has some “big” things planned for Asia this October. Take a look at this huge sculpture he’s working on for the “Passing Through” exhibition at Harbour City, one of the biggest shopping venues in Hong Kong. The hand positioning is reminiscent of the collaboration he did with Yue Minjun back in 2008. Discuss KAWS here.

Nuart ’10: Blu & Ericailcane

It looks like this year’s Nuart Festival is finally underway in Norway. Blu continues his collaborations with big names, this time with Bologna based Ericailcane on the same building. Together, they take aim like other artists (Os Gemeos, Todd Schorr) at an easy target – the massive oil spill by BP in the Gulf of Mexico. Ironically, Stavanger is currently hosting ONS, one of the world’s largest oil and energy industry conferences. Keep it locked on AM as Vhils, ROA, Dolk, Evol, Alexandros Vasmoulakis, Sten […]

The show in his hometown, which will include prints and originals from 2003-2010, is rumored to be the last from the popular Midwest artist and has many of his fans traveling long distances to attend the opening. Teaser: Amy Sol @ Corey Helford Gallery

Amy Sol (interviewed) recently posted an teaser image on her twitter of a new painting she started working on. She does have a solo show in October at the Corey Helford Gallery, so perhaps this is the beginnings of that new body of work. We’ll keep you posted. Discuss Amy Sol here.

Teaser: Andrew Hem @ Art San Diego Contemporary Art Fair

Our friend Amanda recently posted up an image of Andrew Hem’s (interviewed) sketchbooks, scattered gloriously about with pages open revealing this and that. In essence, these gouache “sketches” are mini-paintings and a selection will be available from LeBasse Projects at next month’s Art San Diego Contemporary Art Fair. As a whole, the work is a summary of Andrew’s many travels as he stops occasionally to paint a scene that impressed him for one reason or another. Via Erratic Phenomena. Discuss Andrew Hem here.

LA Openings: Jean-Michel Basquiat – The Radiant Child

The film we heard first heard whispers of at Art Basel Miami last year is finally ready for its Los Angeles release tonight. Billed as the definitive documentary on Jean-Michel Basquiat, “The Radiant Child” (trailer) was filmed by close friend Tamra Davis before his untimely death in 1988 after which she stored the footage away for almost 20 years. There will be some special guests for some of the initial screenings, details after the jump…

Openings: Jonathan LeVine Gallery – “Annual Summer Invitational”

Last week, we stopped by Jonathan LeVine Gallery to hang out and catch their “Annual Summer Invitational” (previewed). The diverse group show consisted of artists who have never officially shown with the gallery and gave attendees of the gallery a different look at some different Low Brow and Street art action. We particularly enjoyed the Judith Supine, Andrew Hem (interviewed),  and EVOL pieces that were displayed. Catch it all after the jump.

VNA Issue 12 Launch & Live Painting with Mr Jago

VNA released issue number 12 last week at their launch night party at Pure Evil Gallery. The magazine has turned into an absolute must read publication over the last couple of years, with each issue being highly anticipated by us at AM as the guys seem to improve their already winning formula of the best of London’s street art photography combined with great interviews and written pieces with each and every release. Issue 12 features Belgian street artist Roa on the cover, and another reason […]

Continuing a string of quality book releases at SFMOMA (see David Choe and Further signings), Mark Ryden spent some time last week meeting and greeting his legions of fans on the occasion of the release of his new book “The Snow Yak Show” from Last Gasp Books (purchase here). Luckily for us, our friends from Hi-Fructose were on hand to document the event. More pics after the jump…
