Openings: Rob Sato – “Muscle Memories” @ Copro Gallery

Last weekend, AM stopped by Copro Gallery to check out the new body of work from Rob Sato entitled “Muscle Memories.” This collection of watercolors, limited editions, and even some works on slides bombarded attendees with the stunning individual detail of each piece, yet if taken as a whole when taking a step back, the kinetic clusters define intricate compositions and gives a look into Sato’s imagination. Openings: FrePrs – “Vivid Fiction” @ Merry Karnowsky Gallery

A couple weekends ago, Samuel Lowder aka Freprs’ joint show with Aiko and Junko Mizuno opened at the Merry Karnowsky Gallery. On display, were his daring color combinations and stencil work inspired by “old advertisements, cartoons, and cinema”. Lowder began as a graffiti artist based in the Los Angeles in the early 90’s has since progressed to stenciling and pasting. More pics after the jump…

Interview with Gaye Advert / Preview: “Beyond Punk” @ Signal Gallery

Two of our cultural loves come together this week in an artistic punk rock mash-up. “Beyond Punk” is a group art exhibition curated by femme punk icon Gaye Advert, the former bass guitarist of The Adverts. Preview: Bast – “Botulism” @ Lazarides (Rathbone Place)

Sounds like the next big show at Lazarides’ main gallery space in London has been announced. Bast, who recently collaborated with Faile (featured) on the Deluxx Fluxx Arcade (London and New York), will be opening “Botulism” at Rathbone Place starting August 20th. And, from the looks of things, the New York collage specialist will be focusing some of his time on his signature portraits although according to Vandalog, Laz says Bast will be “developing past preoccupations in an exciting new direction” as well. Teaser: Jason Jaworski – “Annual Holiday Party” @ Citrus Report Open Office

On Wednesday night, The Citrus Report is going to open it’s doors with a pop-up show for it’s first ever “Open Office” by taking over the old Fifty24SF gallery space at 252 Filmore Street from August 11th – 26th. Our friend Jason Jaworski is actually going to be featured artist and will as a special performance art installation, write his infamous zine’s live for the people in attendance. Teaser: Yoskay Yamamoto @ Roq La Rue

After a great solo showing at LeBasse Projects, Yoskay Yamamoto (interviewed) is already hard at work for his coming show at Roq La Rue September 10th. Showing along side peer Edwin Ushiro (interviewed), Mr. Yamamoto is set to unleash a new set of images for Seattle’s finest. Teaser: Brendan Monroe – “Figments” @ Galerie L.J.

Time flies. It has almost been a year since Brendan Monroe’s (interviewed) solo show at Richard Heller Gallery. In the meantime, he’s relocated to Sweden where he currently lives and works. His newest body of work entitled “Figments” will feature a collection of organic paintings and sculptures all done in his signature palette.
