Preview/Interviews: Herakut “Dirty Laundry” Show (UK)

German collaborative duo Herakut will be opening a show entitled “Dirty Laundry” on November 28th. The show was organized by campobarbossa who arranged for a venue in London’s Covent Garden. All the works are pre-commissioned paintings and sketches so this will strictly be an exhibition with no sales. We quite like the combination of Akut’s photorealistic spray paint and Hera’s more fluid broad strokes.  Jasmin aka Hera took some time to answer some questions and share some preview images with us.

Preview/Interviews: Candice Tripp @ Lazarides

A young artist whose work we admire, South African born artist Candice Tripp, will be opening her show “Home Is Where The Telly Is” with Lazarides this Thursday.  Although her work is not like the typical from Laz’s stable of street artists, her solo show starts on November 13th at the Newcastle location.   She was kind enough to send us some preview images for our readers as well as answer some questions after the jump…

Openings: Pour Me Some Smoke – Carmichael Gallery

On a weekend packed full of great shows, the Carmichael Gallery opening reception was one of AM’s first stops. Fresh off moderating the successful Bonham’s Contemporary Street panel, up next for Carmichael was the “Pour Me Some Smoke” group show which offered a wide variety of contemporary flavors. The changling lineup with works from  Case, Charming Baker, Ian Strawn, Guy Denning, and TRXTR had the attendees switching gears all night. As usual, Carmichael Gallery offered a fresh contemporary perspective for everyone who is looking for something off […]

Openings: Nate Frizzell, Scott Belcastro @ Cerasoli:LeBasse

Both Nate Frizzell and Scott Belcastro had show openings this past Saturday at Cerasoli:LeBasse.  AM dropped in on the opening and we hope you get a better feel of the work from the photos after the jump.  If you missed the opening, we would recommend dropping by Cerasoli:LeBasse to see this for yourself.  The shows run until November 29th.

Openings: Jose Parla @ Cristina Grajales

AM was in attendance Saturday night for the opening of Jose Parla’s first NYC solo show, entitled Layered Days at Cristina Grajales. In addition to the caligraphic abstract paintings and watercolors for which Parla has earned his reputation as one of urban art’s most sought-after artists, the exhibition also included several beautiful ceramic works, made in collaboration with the Ichi-Yo Gama family-owned Bizen-yaki factory in Japan. There was also a wall-sized mixed-medium installation of paintings, drawings, photography and more. Parla himself was on hand for […]

Openings: The Drawing Room @ Thinkspace

Last night’s show “The Drawing Room” (previewed) at Thinkspace opened with a tremendous showing by art fans. The long line snaked outside from the beginning to end with the gallery packed to maximum capacity. Not only were the fans there to see Audrey Kawasaki (curator) & her work, they were there for the many other talented artists that participated in the show. Photos after the jump.

Openings: Faile – Lost in Glimmering Shadows

At an abandoned school house in Vauxhall, UK last night, Faile and Lazarides held a special opening reception for their new show: Lost In Glimmering Shadows. There was much speculation and rumors regarding their new works which included Wood Palettes and Prayer Wheels. AM recently previewed some exclusive images for the coming show, but we never could imagine what the final product would be… Judging from the last night’s tremendous opening, it’s apparent that Faile brought the “heavy lumber” directly from New York and transformed this schoolhouse […]

Openings: Greg Simkins – It Wanders West

Ever let your imagination run wild? Well you wouldn’t have a choice at a Craola show and this one was a stunner. Last night, Greg “Craola” Simkins premiered Part II of his “It Wanders…” show and AM was on hand to catch the opening reception. A lively crowd quickly packed Gallery 1988 to see the sold-out show. Greg was on hand to meet and greet his numerous fans. Taking time to speak and catch up with his fans is something that Greg tries to do […]

Our friend Rhinomilk sent us some photos from the Paul Insect opening last night at Fifty24SF. The entrance to the gallery looked pretty badass with all of the baby head images plastered over the walls and ceilings. Follow us inside … after the jump.
