 – “In Infinity” @ Louisiana Museum of Modern Art (Denmark)

Currently at the Louisiana Museum of Art in Denmark, the first ever retrospective in Scandinavia from Yayoi Kusuma is on display through January 24th next year. In Infinity features works spanning more than six decades, from visual art to performance, film, literature and design, presented in chronological order including a new series of paintings created specifically by the Japanese artist for this exhibition. Openings: Soey Milk – “PIDA” @ Hashimoto Contemporary

Earlier this month, Soey Milk brought her work up north to Hashimoto Contemporary in San Francisco for a solo entitled PIDA / 피다. The title references a Korean term that means to blossom or to become something else, something that applies to her continued development as an artist and her experimentation with technique. On display were a diverse selection of works including oil paintings and graphite drawings, some with embedded objects incorporated into the pieces. Streets: Faith47 (New York)

Earlier this week, Faith47 finished a mural in East Harlem on the corner of 103 Street and Madison Avenue entitled Estamos Todos Los Que Cabemos, a part of MonumentArt, presented by the La Marqueta Retoña initiative. The wall was painted as part of the project focused on the issue of immigration with the imagery of migratory birds chosen for the fact their their patterns ignore human borders on a map. Opening on October 10th at the Japanese American National Museum is Giant Robot Biennale 4, a group exhibition featuring works from artists curated by Eric Nakamura (interviewed), the man behind the Giant Robot brand. The fourth iteration (see 2009, 2012) of the show looks to be the most ambitious yet featuring artists like James Jean, Jim Lee, Kim Jung Gi, Katsuya Terada, Edwin Ushiro, and Yumi Sakagawa, among others. Showing: Brendan Monroe – “Morphology” @ Heath Ceramics (San Francisco)

Currently, Heath Ceramics in San Francisco has an amazing new set of works on display from Brendan Monroe (interviewed) at their Boiler Room space. Entitled Morphology, the exhibition is a cohesive combination of mostly sculptural works, wall mural, and original pieces. On October 1st, Roq La Rue opened it’s doors to a cavalcade of new works. Casey Weldon (featured) was welcomed back to the gallery for Hastemaker, where he continues to explore putting real people in surreal situations. Jeff Jacobson’s first solo show at Roq la Rue, titled Aphotic Ilk, explores a world between worlds. Almost precisely one year since his debut show with the gallery, Todd James recently returned to Tokyo for his latest solo with Nanzuka Gallery titled Fly Like The Wind. Previews: “OUTSIDEIN” @ ArtCenter College of Design

Thursday night, the ArtCenter College of Design in Pasadena will be opening OUTSIDEIN, an indoor and outdoor exhibition that is focused graffiti-based mural painting. Along with the wall painted by RISK that we showed you a few weeks back, artists Olivia Bevilacqua, David Flores, Chase, Robbie Conal, Cryptik, Jeanne Detallante, Shepard Fairey, James Jean, Geoff McFetridge, Kenny Scharf, and Jeff Soto have also made contributions. Openings: Beyond Eden 2015

Just this past weekend, the fifth and final edition of Beyond Eden was held at the Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery at Barnsdall Park. The bulk of the artworks exhibited was seen at booths from C.A.V.E. Gallery (Venice, CA), Copro Gallery (Santa Monica, CA), Spoke Art (San Francisco, CA), Hashimoto Contempoary (San Francisco, CA) and event organizers Thinkspace (Culver City, CA). Also, both Mear One (interviewed) and Meggs had solo showcases hosted by the event and there was live painting from Steven Lopez, Gustavo Rimada, John Park and Joseph Lee on Saturday night. Baby Tattooville ’15: Surrealist Ball

On Saturday night, attendees of this year’s Baby Tattooville at Riverside’s Mission Inn witnessed something that they will not soon forget for a very long time. The highlight of the annual art retreat (although this year’s was the last) was a Surrealist Ball hosted by none other than Mark Ryden and Marion Peck.
