Artist couple Barry McGee and Clare Rojas are currently having a joint show at Alessandra Bonomo gallery in Rome. The exhibition consists of a variety of new works created and installed exclusively for the gallery’s space, including paintings, drawings, photographs and sculptural objects. Rojas continues to transform her figurative imagery, often inspired by Eastern European, Amish or Native American tradition, into a series of sharp geometrical forms. One of the legends of the early street art movement, Above (interviewed), is currently in Detroit, almost at the end of his two months residency with Inner State Gallery. After dipping their feet into the waters of the Denver art community with a mural a few months back (covered), Mars-1, Damon Soule, and Oliver Vernon return tonight with a full plunge. Momentum at Space Gallery features the Furtherrr Collective together again (see 2012, 2013, 2013) with a showing that highlights how well their imagery go together – whether it is in collaborative pieces or collectively when their individual works are seen side by side. Streets: Vhils (Los Angeles)

Over the last several days, Vhils (filmed) has been busy working his magic in downtown Los Angeles with some new murals arranged by LeBasse Projects. The last time we saw him in the area was in 2011 when we have the chance to catch some of the footage of his unique mark-making in the streets. This newest piece features the Portuguese artist’s portraiture chiseled into this wall near Chinatown as per his usual technique. Openings: Tiffany Bozic – “Qualia” @ Joshua Liner Gallery

Last month, AM attended the opening of Tiffany Bozic’s latest showing with Joshua Liner Gallery, her third (also see 2010 & 2012). The striking new works, nine in total, explores how creatures experience the world and the fact the no two species or persons have the same subjective consciousness. Last Saturday night, Soze Gallery in Los Angeles opened a group exhibition that highlighted the form of the Modernica chair, seen through the lens of each participant’s artistic vision. Friends and artists who show with the gallery, created custom one of a kind versions of the chair with their signature styles and techniques with part of the proceeds going to benefit The Art Of Elysium, a non-profit organization that brings empowering artistic programs to children in the local hospitals in the area. After several months of traveling and creating murals, ROA opened a new solo with Dorothy Circus Gallery on October 31st, introducing some fresh indoor works. Titled Suovetaurilia, the show is dedicated to Rome and its audience, as it refers to the ancient ritual animal sacrifice of a pig (sus), a sheep (ovis) and a bull (tauris) common at one time in the area. New York based artist Alfred Steiner recently opened a slammin’ exhibition at Joshua Liner Gallery. Entitled Likelihood of Confusion, this show encompassed several cornerstone techniques that the artist has been focusing on of late. The new body of work included his realistic watercolors in which he assembles iconic symbols using eye catching free associated images, oil painted shaped fiberboards, and the jaw dropping 3M based reflective artwork with the Louis Vuitton Don and his run in with the papparazi that we first previewed with a studio visit. Showing through April of next year at the Japanese American National Museum (JANM) is an exhibition celebrating the 40th anniversary of Hello Kitty.
