Streets: Tom Fruin’s Stained Glass House @ Brooklyn Bridge Park

As a followup to his stained glass watchtower in 2012 (covered), Tom Fruin created a new installation last month at the Brooklyn Bridge Park for the Dumbo Arts Festival. Entitled Kolonihavehus, the house created from plexiglass was a hit with visitors during the day and at night, although it was particularly stunning lit up once the sun went down. Temporarily inhabited by duo CoreAct, attendees of the event were able to see the art structure enhanced by a collaborative physical performance. Via Colossal.

Streets: DALeast (Poland)

Continuing his assault on walls around the world, DALeast (interviewed) continued to paint his creatures that appear at home in their urban environment. This newest mural, painted with his signature kinetic brushstrokes, was created for the ongoing Urban Forms Gallery public works series in Lodz, the 33rd piece in the whole project. Handiedan’s (interviewed) Vesica Piscis and Canna Intrat from Sail (featured) opened on October 2nd as Roq La Rue welcomed back both artists to the Seattle gallery. Handiedan was able to make the trip from Amsterdam to talk with fans and guests wanting to know more about the intricate nature of her collage pieces. At the conclusion of Baby Tattooville last Sunday morning, attendees had the customary brunch at the Mission Inn before grabbing their Gift Bags and heading their separate ways. Openings: Wayne White – “Invisible Ruler” @ Joshua Liner Gallery

On September 11th, AM attended the solo from Los Angeles-based artist Wayne White at New York’s Joshua Liner Gallery. Entitled Invisible Ruler, the new body of work includes his signature word paintings showing alongside a series on paper he created during a residency at the Rauschenberg Foundation. Completing the exhibition was a group of 15 foot kinetic sculptures, hand constructed from cardboard, highlighting his talents from a time back when he worked on production design for Pee-wee’s Playhouse from which he has won three Emmy Awards.
