Following up their XXL # 1 show in December 2017, XXL # 2 once again consisted of groundbreaking works by four emblematic artists representing the global urban culture. Between the 9th and 15th of May, Peter Opheim held a show at Hankyu Umeda Gallery in Osaka, Japan, as a part of a larger project called New York Art. The showcase is organized by the HPGRP Gallery Tokyo/New York and is his third solo presentation this year after exhibitions in Taipei and Moscow. For this showing, the Brooklyn-based artist created a large series of some 30 paintings and 60 works on paper, introducing his ongoing series of Play-Doh inspired creatures. Streets: Invader (Los Angeles)

It looks like while he was in town for the BEYOND THE STREETS exhibition (covered), Invader added to his prolific body of work on the streets of Los Angeles that stretches back over a decade. For what he calls the 9th wave of invasion of the LA, the French artist got up 29 new mosaics throughout the city including a sweet piece featuring The Dude placed perfectly outside a building that has a bowling alley. As part of the $620 million “Dust to Gold” renovation at the Palms Casino Resort, an impressive collection ranging from blue-chip works to street art murals was acquired, commissioned, and deployed throughout the hotel. Spending a week together in Berlin, Telmo Miel and James Bullough worked on a stunning new piece (located Bernburger Straße 35) that blends the work of the street artists together perfectly. Painting the large wall for the Berlin Mural Fest with the “Unity” concept proposed by Urban Nation in mind, the Dutch duo mixed their patchy & segmented imagery with the locally-based Bullough’s glitchy portraiture in a way the matches their styles up amazingly well. With the releases of associated products in recent days, fans of KAWS had been eagerly awaiting the unveiling of his SEEING/WATCHING duo of sculptures in China.
