Streets: Vhils (Los Angeles)

Over the last several days, Vhils (filmed) has been busy working his magic in downtown Los Angeles with some new murals arranged by LeBasse Projects. The last time we saw him in the area was in 2011 when we have the chance to catch some of the footage of his unique mark-making in the streets. This newest piece features the Portuguese artist’s portraiture chiseled into this wall near Chinatown as per his usual technique. Check out more in-progress photos below… Photo credit: Birdman Photos for Arrested Motion. Discuss Vhils here.

Openings: Roa – “Suovetaurilia” @ Dorothy Circus Gallery

After several months of traveling and creating murals, ROA opened a new solo with Dorothy Circus Gallery on October 31st, introducing some fresh indoor works. Titled Suovetaurilia, the show is dedicated to Rome and its audience, as it refers to the ancient ritual animal sacrifice of a pig (sus), a sheep (ovis) and a bull (tauris) common at one time in the area. With this exhibition, the prolific Belgian artist is connecting the Rome in the distant past, where thousands of exotic animals were killed for people’s entertainment, with the contemporary […]

For this show, the Polish artists created a coherent installation, painting the walls and floor of the gallery with their recognizable symbols – skulls, mushrooms, crowns, etc. Introducing […]

Streets: Phlegm x Pixel Pancho (New Zealand)

It looks like Phlegm and Pixel Pancho recently collaborated on a pretty elaborate mural in New Zealand for the Dunedin Street Art Festival. Working around some architectural elements as well as some wall foliage, the signature characters from the UK-based Phlegm mixed well with the robotic tendencies of the Italy-based Pixel Pancho. Their work melded seamlessly, in no small part due to Phelgm’s decision to only use brushes and a sepia palette, matching up with the other artist perfectly. Photo credit: Joshua Jeffery.
