Ian Strange (Kid Zoom) – “Suburban” @ National Gallery of Victoria

Back in July, we previewed the largest project to date by our friend Ian Strange. The Australian artist formerly known as Kid Zoom had spent two years working on this exhibition, SUBURBAN, that came to an end back in late September at the National Gallery of Victoria. In those two years, he traveled through the American suburbs documenting his entire journey through film and photography in what seems to be the natural progression of his prior show HOME, a personal look into his own suburban […]

Previews: Cyclops – ‘The Way of All Flesh’ @ Outsiders (London)

For us here at AM, Cyclops has been one of the most interesting, and certainly most talented gallery artists to come from the contemporary graffiti world in the UK. His work has seen him revolve back and forth from using his real name to the moniker he was given whilst painting with the much lauded and sadly missed Burning Candy crew. The Way of All Flesh is very much a Cyclops show though – and what a show it appears to be. The exhibition features a series […]

Showing: DALeast – “Redok” @ The Outsiders (Newcastle)

On the 22nd of November, The Outsiders in Newcastle opened a solo by Chinese born artist DALeast (interviewed). For this show, the South Africa-based painter created six large canvases, as well as six matching pen on paper studies, a video installation, and an exclusive limited edition etching created at gallery’s print studio. The title of the show, REDOK, is the phonetic English spelling for a Tibetan expression of hope and fear, two emotions that rule lives. Stepping away from his previous practice of painting dynamic movement scenes, DAL instead presented […]

Streets: Jasper Wong x Kelly Towles (Washington DC)

Last week, Washington DC added another mural to their public space through the efforts of Jasper Wong and Kelly Towles. Painted on the side of an abandoned CIA building for the Art Yards event, the six-story high piece features a surreal image of a dinosaur and bandit playing cat’s cradle, a child’s string-based game. The resulting wall from Wong, who is well versed in the art of public murals as the founder of POW WOW, and Towles, a local artist who curated this DC event […]

She can be seen posing with items from both iconic designers as well as with some drawings by KAWS. Discuss KAWS […]

Showing: Ericailcane – “No Somos Nada” (We Are Nothing) @ Museum of Contemporary Art (Bogotá)

Street muralist and fine artist, Ericailcane, opened his solo museum show at Museum of Contemporary Art in Bogota on the 23rd of November. The Italian painter, whose work ranges from etchings to large scale murals, but also includes animated movies and mixed media work, is known for creating images which almost always “represent virtues, flaws and all the complex universe of the human race.” He produced his first etching at the age of 8, thanks to his artistic father, and that was when his love for […]

Openings: “TRAINS & GENERATIONS” @ Underdogs Gallery

A group of renegade art bandits calling themselves the Underdogs are proving themselves to be quite a powerhouse with one large scale art project after another. This latest gathering of the minds produced a group show titled “TRAINS & GENERATIONS”  at the Underdogs Gallery in Lisbon featuring the imagery of three iconic graffiti photographers over the coarse of more than three decades – from Martha Cooper’s pioneering photos depicting the underbelly of New York City graffiti of the 70’s and 80’s to the works of Alex Fakso and Smart […]
